Are you someone who loves when the numbers balance, the details are organized, and everything is exactly where it should be? Are you looking for an accounting role where your work supports something bigger?

If you're a detail-oriented accounting professional who enjoys keeping things accurate, organized, and on track, the Humane Society of Sarasota County (HSSC) wants you on our team.

Why HSSC?

At HSSC, we're more than a shelter. We're a community-driven organization dedicated to saving lives, strengthening the human-animal bond, and providing compassionate care for animals in need. Behind every adoption, veterinary service, community program, and lifesaving initiative is a strong operational foundation. As our Accounting Associate, you'll help keep that foundation running smoothly by supporting accounts payable, revenue reconciliation, financial records, internal controls, and other day-to-day accounting needs across HSSC.

Why You'll Love This Role:

  • Put Your Accounting Skills to Work for a Mission. Your work helps support the financial operations behind HSSC's lifesaving programs and services.
  • Be the Person Who Keeps Things on Track. Help ensure invoices, payments, deposits, and financial records are accurate, organized, and processed on time.
  • Work Across the Organization. Partner with department managers throughout HSSC to answer questions, resolve issues, and keep financial processes moving.
  • Enjoy Variety in Your Day. From accounts payable and revenue reconciliation to month-end activities and accounting projects, you'll have the opportunity to work across several areas of finance.
  • Use Your Eye for Detail. Help maintain accurate records, strong documentation, and audit-ready financial information.
  • Make a Behind-the-Scenes Impact. Your accuracy and organization help HSSC operate efficiently so our teams can stay focused on the animals and people we serve.
What the Day Really Looks Like
  • Keep Accounts Payable Moving. Process vendor invoices and employee expense reports, verify approvals and coding, and help ensure payments are accurate and timely.
  • Reconcile Revenue. Post and reconcile revenue from multiple platforms and payment sources to the general ledger, making sure records align with funds received and supporting documentation.
  • Process Payments. Prepare weekly check runs and electronic payments and monitor accounts payable activity.
  • Solve the Accounting Puzzles. Reconcile vendor statements and research discrepancies, payment issues, chargebacks, and disputes.
  • Keep Records Organized. Maintain vendor agreements, W-9s, certificates of insurance, and other documentation needed for audit and compliance purposes.
  • Support Day-to-Day Accounting. Prepare bank deposit batches, assist with month-end close, submit Florida sales tax filings, and support other general accounting functions.
  • Provide an Extra Set of Eyes. Review payroll processing for accuracy, completeness, and proper approvals while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Pitch In on Finance Projects. Support accounting projects and other finance initiatives as needs arise.
