The Finance Associate will support the organisation’s day-to-day financial operations by maintaining accurate accounting records, preparing financial reports, monitoring transactions, and supporting compliance with statutory and internal financial requirements. The role will contribute to the preparation of monthly management accounts, bank reconciliations, budgeting, tax compliance, audits, and effective financial record-keeping.
The ideal candidate should be detail-oriented, analytical, organised, and comfortable working with financial data and accounting systems. They should demonstrate a strong understanding of basic accounting principles and maintain a high level of accuracy, confidentiality, and integrity when handling financial information.
- Prepare monthly management accounts, including Profit & Loss statements, Balance Sheets, and Cash Flow statements, accurately and within agreed timelines.
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations for all company accounts, including Naira and foreign currency accounts.
- Prepare, post, and review journal entries, ensuring that all transactions are properly documented, supported, and approved.
- Maintain the general ledger and ensure all financial transactions are accurately and appropriately recorded.
- Monitor accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely payments, collections, and proper documentation.
- Support the preparation of annual and periodic budgets and assist with budget monitoring and variance analysis.
- Support compliance with applicable tax and statutory requirements, including VAT, WHT, PAYE, and other relevant filings.
- Prepare schedules, reports, and supporting documentation required for internal and external audits.
- Maintain an accurate fixed asset register, including additions, disposals, and depreciation schedules.
- Reconcile intercompany accounts and other balance sheet accounts, investigating and resolving discrepancies where necessary.
- Monitor financial transactions and identify inconsistencies, errors, or unusual items requiring further review.
- Ensure proper filing, organisation, and maintenance of financial records, invoices, receipts, schedules, and supporting documents.
- Assist in the preparation of financial reports and analysis required by management for decision-making.
- Maintain confidentiality and ensure the secure handling of financial and accounting information.
- Support the Finance Manager in strengthening financial controls and improving accounting processes.
- Perform other finance and accounting duties as may be assigned by the Finance Manager.
