The purpose of the Senior Accountant is to apply principles of accounting accurately and timely, and to mitigate the risk to the organization by meeting deadlines for all functions assigned.
Understands GAAP and the foundational building blocks of financial accounting. Additionally, understands the financial statements and the organizational activities that affect each statement. Apply these principles to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports by performing the following duties.

Essential Job Functions

Essential Job Duties:


  • Prepare the monthly financial statements on a timely basis.
  • Compile and analyze financial information to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts documenting business transactions.
  • Prepare and submit federal financial reports on a timely basis.
  • Assist in preparing Medicaid and Medicare cost reports.
  • Review journal entries prepared by staff.
  • Review and reconcile payroll tax filings, including W2 review
  • Assist as needed in Payroll processing functions, including retirement timely deposits
  • Monitor compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and company procedures.
  • Review, investigate, and correct errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents, and reports.
  • Devise and implement systems to maintain the integrity of the general ledger.
  • Make recommendations regarding the accounting of reserves, assets, and expenditures.
  • Prepare custom reports out of accounting system.
  • Assists Director of Finance in preparation of internal and external audits involving review of accounting and payroll controls, field work and reporting gathering.
  • Assist Finance Director with annual budget process; upload budget to accounting system.
  • Prepare monthly budget-to-actual reports for review/distribution by Finance Director.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:


Education:   Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) required.


Experience: 5+ years related experience, preferably in a non-profit or Community Health Center; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Strong understanding of GAAP. Payroll tax filing knowledge is required.


Experience with Systems, Computer Applications/Software:  Knowledge and competency with Accounting software, with strong preferences for knowledge of Sage Intacct, HRIS, Epic, Qlik Sense and Vena (or equivalent budgeting/reporting platforms).


Proficiency with Excel, with a mid-to-high level function knowledge is mandatory

Ability to read and interpret documents such as accounting standards, operating and maintenance instructions, and policy & procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Skills Required

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
  • At least 5 years of related accounting experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
  • Knowledge of payroll tax filings
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including mid-to-high-level functions
  • Competency with accounting software
  • Experience with Sage Intacct, HRIS, Epic, Qlik Sense, and Vena or equivalent budgeting/reporting platforms
  • Residence within NorthLakes' service area at the time of hire and throughout employment
