Accountant - Regulatory

Keep Flywheel compliant by owning the tax and royalty reports our regulators depend on.

Why this role matters

Regulatory filings are not optional, and mistakes are expensive. This role makes sure every federal, state and local report is accurate, on time and fully supported.

The Regulatory Accountant prepares, analyzes and submits the tax and royalty reports required by federal, state and local agencies governing the oil and gas industry. You will ensure compliance with complex reporting standards, support audits and partner with internal teams to keep filings accurate and timely.

What you'll own

Regulatory Reporting

• Prepare and file monthly, quarterly and annual regulatory reports
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, disclosure rules and industry standards
• Monitor legislative and regulatory changes and advise leadership
• Maintain documentation supporting all filings

Accounting and Controls

• Perform reconciliations of regulatory accounts and explain variances
• Support month-end close, including accruals, journal entries and regulatory adjustments
• Help develop and maintain internal controls for regulatory accounting
• Support internal and external audits

Partnership

• Partner with operations, revenue accounting, land, compliance and finance to gather filing data

What you bring

Must have

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field
• 2+ years of professional accounting experience
• Strong knowledge of regulatory reporting requirements
• Advanced Excel and ERP or accounting system skills
• Solid understanding of GAAP

Bonus points

• Oil and gas accounting experience
• Midstream or upstream regulatory filings
• Production reporting systems and revenue accounting
• Ability to interpret complex regulatory guidelines
