Summary Generated by Built In

We’re excited to share an upcoming opportunity pending a contract award and are connecting with qualified candidates in advance. Once we identify the right candidate, we anticipate extending a contingent offer, with employment dependent on final award confirmation and funding.

This position will work onsite at the client site in Bethesda, Maryland, five days per week. Remote or hybrid work is not an option for this opportunity.

At Altarum, we’re driven by a simple but powerful mission: improving the health of individuals with fewer financial resources and populations underserved by the healthcare system. We partner with federal and state agencies to design and deliver solutions that make a real, measurable difference.

In this role, you’ll join Palladian Partners, Altarum Enterprise’s full-service marketing and communications team, collaborating with colleagues across disciplines to deliver innovative, high-impact solutions for our clients.

About the Role

As an embedded Account Supervisor, you'll work onsite with our client, run editorial projects day to day, and build strong client relationships. You'll be the guardian of the command's voice, credibility, and accuracy across its written platforms. You'll manage the full review and approval process for materials headed for public release, from first draft to final sign-off.

What You'll Do

    • Manage the end-to-end editorial lifecycle for all public-facing written materials, including articles, reports, web content, and leadership messaging.
    • Develop and manage an editorial calendar, track documents through multiple review stages, and keep deadlines on track.
    • Review, edit, and proofread content for clarity, accuracy, and grammar, and for compliance with AP Style, command style guides, and DoW regulations.
    • Fact-check and verify sources for all claims, statistics, and medical information, working closely with subject matter experts (SMEs) across clinical and administrative departments.
    • Serve as the central point of contact for the written review process, coordinating feedback and revisions among authors, SMEs, legal counsel, and public affairs leadership to reach consensus and final approval.
    • Lead the development, maintenance, and enforcement of an organizational style guide that keeps communications consistent and professional.
    • Manage the final clearance process, packaging and presenting finalized documents to the senior Public Affairs Officer for approval before public release.

What You'll Bring

    • Bachelor's degree or higher in Communications, Journalism, English, or a related field.
    • 5+ years of professional experience in editing, copyediting, or technical writing.
    • Exceptional, demonstrable command of English grammar, punctuation, and Associated Press (AP) Style, with command of style guides generally.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Thorough understanding of HIPAA and Protected Health Information (PHI), and the ability to apply those safeguards rigorously.
    • Project management experience, specifically managing an editorial calendar and multi-author publications.
    • Meticulous attention to detail, a commitment to customer service, and an unwavering ethical commitment to accuracy and source verification.
    • An action-oriented, organized, proactive, and adaptable approach to project and editorial calendar management.

Preferred qualifications

    • Direct experience reviewing medical research, public policy, or military doctrine.
    • Military and/or healthcare communications experience (strongly preferred).

Federal Clearance & Badge Requirement

Because this role supports Department of Defense/Department of War (DoD/DoW) clients, you must complete the required federal background investigation and credentialing process and be eligible to obtain and maintain the government-issued badge required for this position.

These requirements are in addition to Altarum/Palladian’s standard background screening process.

Where You'll Work

This is a fully onsite role. This position will work onsite at the client site in Bethesda, Maryland, five days per week. Remote or hybrid work is not an option for this opportunity.

Being on site lets you collaborate in person with authors, subject matter experts, legal counsel, and public affairs leadership, and build strong working relationships with the client each day.

If you're near one of our offices (Silver Spring, MD; or Novi, MI), you will join us in person one day every other month (6 times per year) for a fun, purpose-driven Collaboration Day. These days are filled with creative energy, meaningful connection, and team brainstorming.

Work Eligibility & Requirements

    • Candidates must be currently eligible to work in the United States; sponsorship is not available.
    • All work must be performed within the continental U.S. for the duration of employment, unless required by contract.
    • Ability to work core hours aligned with Eastern Time, unless otherwise approved by your manager.
    • Remote employees must maintain a dedicated, ergonomically appropriate workspace free from distractions, with reliable internet and a mobile device that supports efficient work.
    • Travel Requirements: <10%
