Purpose of the role:
Actively engage in activities to achieve Budget (sales target). Aim to maintain the existing customer contracts and expand sales by adding new contracts and promoting and selling new products. Develop new prospects and acquire new contracts. While it is expected to pursue sales opportunities, the role also is expected to work as a team and support each other.
Key tasks:
- Manage relationships with academic and government institutions in Japan
- Conduct frequent domestic business travel (approximately once per month)
- Handle Springer Nature electronic products licensed to academic and government sectors, including e-journals, e-books, and databases
- Promote and support main products such as SRG Journals, NRG Journals, eBooks, Content on Demand, nature.com Complete, AdisInsight, SpringerMaterials, SpringerProtocols, Protocols.io, etc.
- Oversee account status and maintain accurate customer records
- Coordinate schedules, including arranging customer visit appointments
- Prepare visit materials and tailored sales proposals
- Conduct customer visits, lead negotiations, and deliver presentations
- Provide price quotations for both direct customers and agencies
- Process sales orders and manage data using Salesforce
- Follow up on agreement signing and contract completion
- Handle customer correspondence, including complaints and usage inquiries
- Participate in internal meetings and training sessions, such as sales meetings and product training
Routine tasks (Responsibilities):
- Schedule sharing (via Outlook)
- Create sales record (SalesForce)
- Opportunities/Pipeline management (SalesForce, Excel, etc.)
- Customer information management (SalesForce etc.)
Others:
- Cooperation with Account Support, Online Service, Marketing, and Product Specialists
- Demonstrate flexibility and a team-oriented mindset by supporting colleagues and resolving unforeseen challenges beyond individual sales responsibilities
Qualifications:
- University degree
Experience
- Experience in sales for institutions (e.g. academic, corporate, hospital) more than 3 years
- Might be desirable to be familiar with library business, scientific publication and database products industry
Skills
- Japanese: Fluent in spoken and written Japanese, with proficiency equivalent to native level for business communication, client interaction, and documentation
- English: Business-level proficiency required for internal communication and reporting
