The Role
Own and grow strategic OEM relationships through complex hardware product-development cycles from technical qualification through production. Serve as the primary bridge between customers and engineering, product, operations, legal, and supply-chain teams. Coordinate milestones, design tradeoffs, commercial changes, negotiations, and executive communication while building account-management processes for a new function. This senior individual-contributor role requires technical credibility, strategic account ownership, and approximately 50% international travel.
Summary Generated by Built In

Our client is a global augmented-reality hardware company developing advanced optics, waveguides, display systems, and precision manufacturing technology for the next generation of smart glasses. After more than a decade of AR innovation, the company is expanding its component-supplier model and partnering with leading consumer electronics and technology companies.
The company employs approximately 800 people and has raised more than $4.3 billion from major strategic and institutional investors. This is an opportunity to help define a newly forming account management function around industry-leading hardware that will be designed into future AR products.
We are hiring an Account Management Director to own and grow strategic OEM partner relationships through complex, 12-to-18-month product development cycles. This is a senior individual-contributor role with no direct reports and no new-business quota. You will be the primary bridge between customers and internal engineering, product, operations, and supply-chain teams from technical qualification through production.
What you will do
• Own day-to-day relationships with strategic OEM partners from technical qualification and design reviews through manufacturing readiness and production.
• Serve as the single point of contact between partner teams and internal engineering, product, operations, legal, and supply-chain stakeholders.
• Coordinate technical discussions, program milestones, design tradeoffs, commercial changes, and executive communication across complex buying organizations.
• Advocate for partner needs while communicating manufacturing constraints, technical risks, and schedule implications clearly and proactively.
• Protect long-term account value through negotiations, scope changes, and product-lifecycle decisions.
• Build the operating cadence, processes, and account-management playbook for a new function.
• Maintain trusted relationships with both executive and technical stakeholders across global partner organizations.

Requirements

What we are looking for
• 10 or more years of technical account management or customer-facing experience in complex hardware.
• Experience at a semiconductor, optics, display, photonics, consumer-electronics, sensor, or capital-equipment company.
• A record of owning a strategic or OEM account through a full product development cycle from qualification into production.
• Experience with long, complex sales or design-in cycles of approximately 12 to 18 months.
• Technical credibility to discuss design tradeoffs and manufacturing constraints without always relying on a specialist.
• Strong cross-functional coordination across engineering, product, operations, legal, and supply chain.
• Executive-level communication, commercial judgment, and comfort navigating ambiguity in a newly forming function.
• A desire to remain a hands-on senior individual contributor rather than build or lead a large team.
• Candidates must already be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Helpful experience includes direct familiarity with optics, waveguides, displays, photonics, semiconductors, sensors, or AR and VR hardware; experience at a component supplier selling into OEM design cycles; an engineering background followed by a transition into strategic account management; and international account ownership.

Benefits

Base salary of $160,000 to $200,000 with flexibility based on experience and market feedback. Annual performance bonus, unlimited paid time off, comprehensive medical and retirement benefits, and up to $20,000 in relocation support. This role does not include equity or sales commission. The position is remote within the United States, with Austin, Texas or Plantation, Florida preferred, and requires approximately 50 percent travel including international travel.

Skills Required

  • 10 or more years of technical account management or customer-facing experience in complex hardware
  • Experience at a semiconductor, optics, display, photonics, consumer-electronics, sensor, or capital-equipment company
  • Experience owning a strategic or OEM account through a full product development cycle from qualification into production
  • Experience with complex sales or design-in cycles lasting approximately 12 to 18 months
  • Technical credibility discussing design tradeoffs and manufacturing constraints
  • Strong cross-functional coordination across engineering, product, operations, legal, and supply chain
  • Executive-level communication and commercial judgment
  • Comfort navigating ambiguity in a newly forming function
  • Willingness to remain a hands-on senior individual contributor
  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship
  • Direct familiarity with optics, waveguides, displays, photonics, semiconductors, sensors, or AR and VR hardware
  • Experience at a component supplier selling into OEM design cycles
  • Engineering background followed by a transition into strategic account management
  • International account ownership experience
