Who you are and what you'll do

You are a 3D Designer with a specialization in indoor and outdoor maps. You possess the ability to think critically about design challenges and determine the most effective ways to communicate complex ideas through 3D visualizations rendered on 2D screens. You understand not just how to create visually compelling designs, but also when and why to use 3D visualization as a tool to effectively convey a concept to users.

As a highly autonomous professional, you thrive on carving your own path. You are proficient with Modern 3D and 2D design tools like Blender and Figma to visualize and design beautiful interactive maps.

As a part of the engineering team and reporting to the VP, Product Engineering, you are responsible for the following:

• Make our maps more beautiful, usable, and accessible
• Create concepts of what the future of indoor maps looks like
• Contribute to design scoping and estimation efforts with development team
• Help the SDK development team ideate, prototype and plan future capability of our map rendering engine
• Implement findings from feedback and testing by rapid iteration of designs
• Present design work with solid rationale and manage stakeholder feedback
• Lead and facilitate design and ideation workshops to build a shared experience vision
• Understand and empathize with end users, clients and team members

What you bring

• 3+ years of experience 3D design or similar role
• A design portfolio demonstrating your experience and approach
• Experience scoping, estimating and planning design activities for projects
• Experience leading conversations with clients and stakeholders

Nice to have

• Experience with outdoor tilesets like Open Street Maps
• Experience with GIS / Cartography 
• Experience with Three.js
• Experience in map design, or 3D world design, game design, and 3D UX/UI design

Because of this, we can’t guarantee exactly what you’ll be working on three months from now but we can guarantee that you will be working on high value projects that will foster your growth along with Mappedin’s. Behind the scenes

We use a variety of technology and tools that currently include JavaScript, React, Three.js, Webpack, WebGL, Node.js, Kotlin, Swift, MongoDB, Clickhouse and Superset. We collaborate effectively online using various tools and platforms.

We follow the Test Driven Development methodology to write code that is testable, tested, and only does what it needs to do. We don’t expect you to be an expert in TDD when you start, but we do expect you to become one. You also own the quality of your own work, and we expect you to prove that with your own integration and end to end tests. There is a lot of discovery work involved as we frequently do things that are ahead of current technology. We also encounter tough problems that require a lot of math. It’s not a requirement for this role, but if you enjoy solving interesting geometry problems, we’d love to have your input.
