2D FX Artists (mid- senior)

The Opportunity: 

We are staffing up for a new Marvel Studios streaming series, and we are looking for talented 2D FX Artists across all experience levels to create and animate stunning effects for the show!

You will be responsible for creating and conceptualizing hand drawn 2D sequences that meet the incredibly high aesthetic, creative, and technical quality standards of this production. Whether you are a Mid level artist expanding your technical toolkit, or a Senior designing complex supernatural sequences, we want your artistic eye on our team.

In this role, success looks like:

Artistic Execution and Animation

• Create incredible natural and supernatural effects including water, smoke, dust, bubbles, fire, storms, shadows, blurs, and explosions that seamlessly integrate into the scene.
• For Seniors: Confidently tackle the most complex sequences, help conceptualize the look of new effects, and set the visual bar for the department.
• Consistently demonstrate a broad range of hand drawn 2D FX abilities with strong composition and artistic timing.

Collaboration and Feedback

• Participate actively in the review and quality control process, applying changes requested by the Supervisors and Production team efficiently and with a positive attitude.
• Work closely with the FX Supervisor, CG Supervisor, and other departments to identify and solve technical issues.
• For Seniors and Mids: Provide proactive suggestions and recommendations on techniques and elements used in the show to elevate the final product.

Pipeline and Workflow

• Work to integrate effects into the shot workflow in the most efficient way possible.
• Collaborate with the Pipeline group to improve FX processes, workflows, and toolsets.
• Maintain and communicate a strong knowledge of innovative 2D FX animation technologies, sharing best practices with the rest of the team.

The Requirements

Must Haves:

• Experience:
  • Mid: 3 to 5 years of production experience handling moderately complex effects independently.
  • Senior: 5 plus years of production experience with a proven track record of delivering top quality, complex effects and helping troubleshoot pipeline issues.
• Software: Strong experience with Toon Boom Harmony or Flash.
• Core Skills: A keen artistic eye, solid understanding of the animation production pipeline, and the ability to troubleshoot and find clever workarounds when technical problems arise.
• Eligibility: You must be legally eligible to work in British Columbia.

Nice to Haves:

• Experience with stylized or non realistic effects is a massive plus!
• A Bachelor degree, college diploma, or equivalent in Animation (though your portfolio and timing always matter more to us than a degree).
• Working knowledge of Flow Production Tracking (formerly ShotGrid).
