Job Description

What is the opportunity?

RBC's Portfolio Risk Oversight (PRO) team within Group Risk Management (GRM) is hiring a Data & AI Analyst Intern for the Winter 2027 term. Our team objectively assess and escalate credit risks across Business and Commercial Banking, deliver detailed portfolio analysis that supports strategic decision-making, maintain best-in-class data capabilities, and respond to ad-hoc data and analytics requests from stakeholders across the organization.

Working hands-on with credit risk and financial data, you will help create and deliver superior risk management insights that grow profitable business, shape prudent risk guidelines and policy, and create sustainable value for RBC shareholders. If you enjoy solving real problems with data, and experimenting with emerging technology, this is a term where your work will be visible and will matter.

What will you do?

  • Leverage credit risk and portfolio data to prepare clear, concise and insightful analysis on top and emerging risks and key trends within the BFS portfolio
  • Support the preparation of monthly and quarterly risk reporting for various stakeholders, and respond to ad-hoc analytics requests from partners across the business
  • Contribute to automation and modernization initiatives that make our reporting and analytics faster, more reliable and easier to consume
  • Build hands-on skills across the full data lifecycle — extraction, transformation, aggregation, interpretation and recommendation — and grow your understanding of how credit risk data drives business decisions
  • Participate in analytics design sessions: contribute ideas, gather and document business requirements, and help shape the analytical framework behind effective risk management reporting
  • Explore and apply emerging industry-leading tools and methods — including generative AI — to solve problems in new ways, and share what you learn across the team

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program in a quantitative discipline (e.g. Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, Finance or Economics)
  • Strong quantitative, analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen eye for detail and data accuracy
  • Working knowledge of Python and SQL, with the ability to query, manipulate and analyze large datasets
  • Working knowledge of a data visualization tool such as Tableau, and an instinct for presenting data clearly
  • Ability to draw conclusions from complex data and communicate them in plain business language to non-technical partners
  • Strong MS Office skills, particularly Excel (advanced formulas and data manipulation), PowerPoint and Word
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to balance recurring reporting deadlines against ad-hoc requests
  • Intellectual curiosity and a self-starter mindset — comfortable asking questions and learning new tools quickly

Nice-to-have

  • Familiarity with the financial services industry, or exposure to credit risk concepts
  • Hands-on experience with generative AI or LLM tools, including effective prompt engineering, and an interest in how AI agents and MCP integrations can be applied to real work
  • Familiarity with building HTML-based or web dashboards
  • Exposure to large-scale enterprise data environments, such as an Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW), Enterprise Data Lake (EDL) or Hadoop-based platforms
