Position Overview

Directly supervise and coordinate the activities of production workers in the assigned production work area.

Essential Job Functions

  • Work with Plant Manager, Production Managers and other Production Leads to facilitate and meet production goals in a timely, safe and compliant manner.
  • Work with Production Manager to determine efficient product flow & to meet production goals.
  • Work with Production Manager to facilitate placement production crew and shift lists.
  • Must get along with a diverse group of people in remote and sometimes wet and cold conditions.
  • Flexibility/adaptability – salmon season is unpredictable and leads must be able to go-with-the-flow.
  • Will follow management’s directions, pay attention and abide by safety rules.
  • Routinely reviews workspace for cleanliness and safety.
  • Enforce safety and sanitation regulations.
  • Direct and coordinate the activities of employees working in the Department.
  • Train and monitor for highest quality and productivity.
  • Cross train processors to achieve best job rotation.
  • Wash and sanitize work area as instructed.
  • Read and analyze work orders, production schedules and reports to determine production requirements and to evaluate current production estimates and outputs.
  • Confer with other supervisors to coordinate operations and activities within or between departments.
  • Plan and establish work schedules, assignments, and production sequences to meet production goals.
  • Inspect materials, products, or equipment to detect defects or malfunctions.
  • Observe work and monitor gauges, dials, and other indicators to ensure that operators conform to production or processing standards.
  • Interpret specifications, job orders, and company policies and procedures for workers.
  • Requisition materials, supplies, equipment parts, or repair services.
  • Conduct and document employee training in equipment operations or work and safety procedures.
  • Acquire knowledge of AGS’s Safety Policies by completing required training programs and performing designated work activities in accordance with training and procedures/work instructions.
  • Notify designated personnel of any environmental and safety incidents, or risks not previously documented, in accordance with AGS’s Safety training.
  • Report all accidents or near misses to Safety and Production Manager.
  • Maintain operations data, such as time, production, and cost records, and prepare management reports of production results.
  • Recommend or implement measures to motivate employees and to improve production methods, equipment performance, product quality, or efficiency.
  • Keep records of employees' attendance and hours worked. Track absenteeism of those you manage.
  • Recommend personnel actions, such as hiring’s, evaluations, and promotions.
  • Help mediate production crew complaints & disputes. Apply necessary and appropriate corrective action whenever an employee fails to meet the required standard of conduct or performance, with notification made to the Production Manager.
  • Confer with management or subordinates to resolve worker problems, complaints, or grievances. Direct to HR when necessary. Document all interaction.
  • Maintain confidentiality with personal information of those you supervise. Do not disclose or divulge either directly or indirectly the confidential information to others unless first authorized to do so by Human Resources or Plant Manager.
  • Performs other similar or related duties as requested or assigned.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this Job, you will be regularly exposed to wet, cold or humid conditions and at times exposure to extreme cold. There is the occasional exposure to fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; and risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts, machinery and forklift traffic.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, you will be regularly required to stand: walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. You will occasionally be required to sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. You must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. You may occasionally be required to climb or balance. It is required that you be able to see, talk and hear with or with reasonable accomodations. Specific vision abilities needed for this job includes close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. Ability to distinguish shades of color to identify abnormalities and/or defects in food products.

Leads must be capable of working long and variable work shifts for extended periods of time. Shifts typically range from 12-17 hours with periodic breaks based on work demands, plant production, buying schedules, fish volumes and employee travel schedules.

While performing the duties of this job, you will be required to use teamwork and interpersonal skills. You will occasionally perform basic math. Ability to communicate in English preferred.

Skills Required

  • Supervisory experience managing production or processing crews
  • Knowledge of safety and sanitation regulations in food/seafood processing
  • Ability to work in wet, cold, noisy environments with moving machinery and forklift traffic
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks (stand long periods, stoop, kneel, climb occasionally)
  • Ability to work long, variable shifts (typically 12-17 hours)
  • Ability to read and analyze work orders, production schedules, and production reports
  • Experience training employees, documenting training, and enforcing performance standards
  • Basic math and record-keeping skills (time, production, cost records)
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of personnel information
  • Flexibility and adaptability to unpredictable seasonal production
  • Ability to communicate in English
