2026 AWA Internship & Practicum: Work with Adolescents in a PHP/IOP Setting
Adolescent Wellness Academy (AWA) offers year-round practicum and internship opportunities for graduate students seeking supervised clinical experience in adolescent mental health. Our program is designed to provide meaningful, hands-on training in a supportive, high-standards environment.
About the ProgramAWA is a Partial Hospitalization (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient (IOP) treatment center serving adolescents ages 13–17 and their families. Practicum students and interns are integrated into our clinical team to observe, learn, and gradually participate in the therapeutic process under licensed supervision.
Students gain exposure to:
Individual, family, and group therapy work
Treatment team meetings and collaborative care planning
Crisis intervention approaches and safety protocols
Admissions, assessments, and documentation workflows
Evidence-based modalities used at AWA (DBT, CBT, MI, and more)

EligibilityThis program is open to students currently enrolled in a Master’s or Doctoral program in:
Clinical Mental Health Counseling
Social Work
Marriage & Family Therapy
Psychology or related behavioral health fields
A Level 2 background check and drug test are required before placement.
Placement & SchedulingApplications are accepted year-round
Placement spots are limited and vary by location and semester
Schedules are coordinated based on university requirements and program needs
This is an unpaid clinical training experience

Skills Required
- Enrollment in a Master's or Doctoral program in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Social Work, Marriage & Family Therapy, Psychology, or related behavioral health field
- Ability to complete university practicum/internship placement and schedule coordination with program requirements
- Level 2 background check required prior to placement
- Drug test required prior to placement
What We Do
Adolescent Wellness Academy is a South Florida mental-health provider serving teens ages 13–17 and their families. It offers personalized, evidence-based, family-focused care for conditions and challenges including anxiety, depression, trauma, eating disorders, self-harm, and behavioral issues. Its programs include intensive outpatient, partial hospitalization, therapeutic day, after-school, and virtual care, helping adolescents heal while remaining connected to home and school.
