Job Description

Why intern with Virtus?

Virtus Summer Internship Program is an opportunity for top students to gain relevant work experience in various aspects of the investment management industry. Our program offers interns challenging and meaningful work and the opportunity to demonstrate knowledge acquired through college courses. Also, interns will be evaluated and considered for future employment opportunities within our company. Our internship is designed for students to accomplish the following:

The legal/compliance intern will assist our legal and compliance teams who advise and support Virtus’s (the “Company’s”) asset management business including its open and closed-end mutual funds and ETFs, with a variety of tasks, gaining valuable experience in a fast-paced, professional environment. The legal/compliance intern will conduct legal research and analysis, draft documents, and support ongoing legal and compliance projects, all under the supervision and guidance of experienced attorneys and legal and compliance professionals.

Job Responsibilities:

• Research & Analysis:
  • Conduct legal research on complex issues, analyze case law, statutes, and regulations.
  • Draft materials related to Board meetings, including memoranda, resolutions and minutes.
• Drafting & Review:
  • Review and draft contracts, agreements, and other legal documents.
  • Review and draft fund and corporate disclosure documents.
  • Assist in reviewing and drafting regulatory filings.
  • Assist with review and drafting of corporate and compliance policies and procedures.
  • Review and edit legal documents for accuracy and clarity.
• Support:
  • Organize and maintain legal databases and files.
  • Inventory and help organize policies on the Company’s intranet.
  • Help track and administer compliance training.
  • Support the team with other tasks as needed.

Ideal Qualifications:

• The qualified candidate must be in law school pursuing a J.D. An interest in securities law or the financial services industry a plus.
• Strong academic record with coursework in relevant legal subjects.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Effective analytical and critical thinking skills.
• Proficiency in legal research tools.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Highly motivated with a keen attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
• Maintains high level of integrity and professionalism, including confidentiality.

The pay rate is $30.00 - $35.00 an hour based on experience level.

The starting salary offer will vary based on the applicant’s education, experience, skills, abilities, geographic location, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
