Please note: This posting is for a 12-month Student PEY 2025 placement with a start date of September 2025 and end-date of August 2026.
In order to be eligible for this 12-month Student position, you must be in a Professional Experience Year Program and either:
- Be returning back to school after the work term end-date of August 2026; or
- If you are not returning back to school (i.e. are graduating in September2025/August 2026), but you require the work term as a mandatory component to in order to graduate successfully.

What is the opportunity?
The Home Equity Finance (HEF) Collateral Management team is looking for a 12-month student to join the team and help us solve complex risk management and cost optimization problems. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the high-performing HEF team, which manages the largest mortgage portfolio in Canada with over $400Bn in balances, and plays a critical role in one of the most significant financial decisions our clients will make in their lifetime.
The Collateral Management team is responsible for the development and implementation of strategies that optimize costs, and prudently manage collateral risk.
What will you do?
- Collaborate closely with colleagues across the business and with cross-functional partners in risk, finance and procurement, to drive key P&L and business risk management outcomes.
- Support vendor analytics and enable the Collateral and Vendor Relationship Management teams to make data-informed business decisions for a large Vendor portfolio
- Deepen HEF’s understanding of costs related to property valuation (PV), mortgage insurance (MI) and title insurance (TI), and strengthen RBC's negotiating power with the vendors
- Develop scorecards to assess the performance of the vendors, as required by regulations
- Review of collateral risk associated with loans with out-sized exposure
- Ensure the value of the underlying property continues to support the loan
- Develop a data-driven approach to identity high-value loans due for a property value review, and determine the valuation method appropriate to the risk undertaken
- Identity high-risk mortgages impacted by deterioration in market condition, degradation in borrower credit quality or damage to the underlying collateral, and determine whether a re-evaluation of property is required
- Presented results/date to senior HEF and GRM leaders.
What do you need to succeed?
Must-have
- Data analytics using SQL, Python and Tableau
- Effective and collaborative relationships with stakeholders
- Presentation skills; design and deliver compelling presentations to senior management and other stakeholders
- Problem solving skills including understanding of collateral risk fundamentals
Nice-to-have
- Financial Industry experience; Home Equity Finance (ideal)
