You can’t wake up and smell the software, and that’s Britton O’Daly’s point. He’s a special projects manager, and his favorite part about working at Cometeer is that the e-commerce company produces a tangible product: hyper-fresh coffee brewed better through science. “To be able to actually give your friends or family a capsule and say ‘Hey! Isn’t this delicious, and so awesome, and I work here!’ is really rewarding,” O’Daly said. “You just can’t do that at a SaaS company.”

Shash Chugh wears many hats outside of his day-to-day responsibilities as the head of strategic finance. For example, he’s taken on various tasks for the growth and operations teams, including overseeing changes to Cometeer’s referral program, evaluating quotes for logistics providers, and managing the company’s discounting and pricing strategy. Britton O’Daly can confidently say that he’s never been bored on the job. That’s because as a special projects manager to the CEO, he’s always got his hand in a number of fascinating projects. Just the other week he was in Miami passing out iced lattes at Miami Tech Week. The following week he was back in New York working on a deck for an upcoming board meeting. Now, he’s thinking through new marketing activations Cometeer can run this summer to help expand wholesale to new cities.

It’s easy to settle into complacency at a job where you’re never pushed to tackle new projects. At Cometeer, however, I know I’ll never be bored.

Building strong culture through personal touches

When a company is remote-first, having A-plus people is critical. Just ask Judy Wang. She’s the head of retention at Cometeer and one of the few remote West Coast employees on a predominantly East Coast team. Her favorite part about Cometeer? The people. What’s missed in watercooler conversations is made up for through frequent one-on-ones, team meetings, vibrant Slack chats and the occasional fully-paid trip to Gloucester, Mass. headquarters.
