The best marketing teams have an all-star roster, including a mix of data experts, customer advocates and stellar copywriters ready to bridge the gap between their company’s products and the people who want to buy them.
But some have an extra advantage: a team built on fun and collaboration.
That’s how Julia Sumouske, a content marketing manager at healthtech company Cohere Health, described the atmosphere of her marketing team.
“There is always someone ready to jump in, offer a fresh perspective or help you brainstorm,” Sumouske said. “I’m proud to be on a team that makes this feel less like a job you show up for and more like a team you truly want to be part of.”
Seamus Roddy, a senior content marketing manager at Altana, has had a similar experience at the growing AI network.
“I’ve been on great teams before, but this is the most fun, fast-moving and talented marketing team I’ve ever worked with,” Roddy said. “Sharp strategies, creative problem-solving and collaborating to get stuff done are the table stakes.”

iManage develops an intelligent, cloud-enabled and secure knowledge-work platform.
What’s it like to work on the marketing team at your company?
The product marketing team at iManage is expanding dramatically. There is so much excitement and energy around it! We have a blend of people with deep institutional knowledge and newcomers bringing fresh ideas from both inside and outside legal tech. The team is genuinely open to new ideas and better ways of doing things. There is consistent openness from product marketing leadership, marketing leadership and across functions to new strategies and approaches. This openness is empowering for people who want to grow and stretch, because you are given the freedom to do that.
I have been in legal tech for about eighteen years and one thing that stands out about iManage is its absolutely solid reputation and the ethics embedded in how the company operates. I cannot think of another company with a stronger ethical foundation. It stood out to me during the interview process and has only become clearer since joining. This product marketing team is very disciplined about ensuring we get things out the door in a strategic, thoughtful way. We are constantly thinking about and ensuring that what we say is not overstated or unrepresentative, but true to our foundation of trust.
How does your team shape the way customers, candidates or the market understand your brand?
Product marketing sits at the intersection of product, sales, sales enablement, market intelligence, brand voice and customer needs. We have to think about all of those things together and ensure we are positioning products to solve what customers actually need. We have a very strong, loyal customer base who always needs to be front and center in how we position and message.
We are the deep market and customer experts. We partner with the product experts to bring all of those voices together; to understand the pain and needs of our customers and to be deeply empathetic to that. Understanding what is happening in the industry allows us to be the conduit between sales and product, helping both understand our customers more deeply and position products accordingly.
Different industries, different countries, different emerging personas and buying behaviors require different positioning approaches. When a product is launching, we think about how to position and message it across those different segments. We have to understand who the actual buyers and decision makers are in each context and position accordingly.
What should candidates know about the strategy, creativity or collaboration behind marketing work at your company?
We are a tight team that supports each other and constantly works to stay transparent about what is happening across the portfolio by supporting each other's initiatives, backing each other and partnering on opportunities together. If you own a product portfolio like security, governance, risk and compliance or AI, you get to own, shape and drive the strategy, messaging, positioning, competitive intelligence and white-space analysis for that entire product area.
Product marketing managers partner constantly and tightly with product managers because we bring market and customer lens to product strategy. A product manager may know their product deeply but may not have visibility into how that product positions across different buyer personas, practice areas, regions, or emerging customer segments.
There is a blend where you get to own your creativity within your product portfolio with real autonomy, but we also work very hard to stay a tight team with transparent lines and visibility into what we are all doing. That transparency makes us more effective at leveraging insights, reinforcing messaging and finding better opportunities to collaborate.
Monte Carlo is a data reliability company and the creator of an end-to-end data observability platform.
What’s it like to work on the marketing team at your company?
The marketing team at Monte Carlo has an incredibly diverse stream of responsibilities and a lot of influence across the company. We are the ones that get to shape how the world interacts with our brand from the get-go, so it's an exciting and creative job that is always changing.
How does your team shape the way customers, candidates or the market understand your brand?
All of the messaging and positioning for our company gets drafted in marketing. We come up with the concepts that we want people to associate with Monte Carlo as a brand and then figure out how to express those concepts through things like our website, our imagery/graphics, our social media communications, our blogs and contributed articles, our presence at events, etc. Customers and candidates interact with the company through all of these different touchpoints - almost always in multiple ways. This gives us a chance to reinforce who we are, what we do in terms of our product and what we stand for again and again. This is essentially what "brand" does.
What should candidates know about the strategy, creativity or collaboration behind marketing work at your company?
We are an extremely agile and dynamic team. Strategy gets set but it's never set in stone because we are in an industry and market that is rapidly changing every day. So we develop our ideas and content with intention, but we never stay wedded to anything because we know how important it is to change and evolve with the market. We are constantly learning from our customers, our peers, our competitors and from the industry in general. This keeps our ideas fresh and our creativity always brewing.
EDGE is a data and analytics platform for consumer credit risk based on the latest alternative data.
What’s it like to work on the marketing team at your company?
Working at EDGE is one of those rare opportunities where the work actually matters beyond the bottom line. Our marketing team is small, which means everyone carries real responsibility. There's no siloed ownership or endless committee reviews. If you identify an opportunity, you can own it from concept to launch. We're in fintech, so the subject matter has real depth. You're working with data, regulation and a product that genuinely helps lenders make better decisions for borrowers who've been underserved by traditional credit systems. The work rewards people with a genuine intellectual curiosity about how financial systems operate and why credit access matters. The pace is fast, the feedback loop is tight and you have to be comfortable moving between technical concepts and clear, accessible messaging, sometimes in the same afternoon.
How does your team shape the way customers, candidates or the market understand your brand?
EDGE is doing something genuinely new: Building the infrastructure for cashflow-based credit assessment at bureau scale. That's a complex idea to explain to a market that's been credit-score-native for decades. Our job in marketing is to make the case for why cashflow data tells a richer story than a bureau snapshot and to do it in a way that's credible to lenders, compelling to partners and clear to the broader fintech ecosystem. We use a mix of original research, thought leadership, conference presence and product-specific content to build that credibility over time. The brand work isn't about awareness for its own sake. It's about earning trust in a space where trust is the product.
What should candidates know about the strategy, creativity or collaboration behind marketing work at your company?
The strategy here is genuinely data-driven. We publish our own research and use it to anchor every campaign and content decision. That means marketers at EDGE need to be comfortable with nuance, because we're not selling a simple consumer app; we're making the case for a shift in how the lending industry thinks about risk. Creatively, the constraint is actually energizing: our brand is clean, precise and authoritative and the challenge is finding ways to make complex ideas feel accessible without losing accuracy. You're working closely with product, sales and leadership and the team is small enough that your work is visible and your voice is heard. If you want to understand a space deeply and build marketing that actually moves a market, EDGE is a great place to do that.
Gradient AI is an AI and machine learning company that focuses on the insurance industry.
What’s it like to work on the marketing team at your company?
Gradient AI’s marketing team moves fast and works cross-functionally. We don't sit in a silo writing copy, we partner directly with product, sales and leadership to shape how the company shows up. As a senior product marketing manager, I spend as much time in strategy conversations as I do in execution. The past year has been a great example: We ran a full rebrand and website relaunch, which meant working closely with design, sales and our exec team to rethink not just how we look, but how we talk about what we do.
How does your team shape the way customers, candidates or the market understand your brand?
We just completed a full rebrand and website relaunch at gradientai.com and it's the direct answer to this question. For a long time, we described ourselves in terms of what our platform does, using language like fast, intelligent and data driven. Now we tell a clearer and more honest story — we give group health and P&C insurers decision intelligence that delivers an advantage beyond the numbers. That same positioning carries through everything we produce, including the website, our sales materials, our reports and our presentations, along with a refreshed visual identity featuring a new color palette, a brand gradient and updated typography. The goal is consistency and credibility, so that whoever encounters Gradient AI, whether a customer, a prospect, or a candidate, comes away with the same clear picture of who we are.
What should candidates know about the strategy, creativity or collaboration behind marketing work at your company?
Candidates should know this team gets real ownership over marketing strategy, not just campaign execution. Our recent rebrand is a good example of the collaboration involved: it touched product marketing, design and leadership and required aligning an entire company on a new way of describing our value before a single word of copy went out. It's also a team that isn't afraid to challenge existing positioning. We rebuilt our messaging from the ground up rather than doing a surface-level refresh, because we believed the market needed a more precise story about what we deliver. If you like marketing work with strategic weight behind it, not just creative output, that's what you'll find here.
Cohere Health is a healthtech company that provides intelligent prior authorization. The company’s primary goal is to align physicians and payers on the patient’s entire care journey.
What’s it like to work on the marketing team at your company?
At Cohere Health, I have the privilege of working alongside people I admire! There is always someone ready to jump in, offer a fresh perspective, or help you brainstorm. In a startup environment, there is always a new challenge to tackle. We move quickly, but we move together. I’m proud to be on a team that makes this feel less like a job you show up for and more like a team you truly want to be part of.
How does your team shape the way customers, candidates or the market understand your brand?
There's almost no part of those three things that we don't have a hand in shaping. Every time Cohere Health launches something new, it's the marketing team crafting the materials that explain it, building the narrative that gives it context and developing the language our growth team uses to bring it to market. What excites me most is that we're not simply amplifying a story that already exists — we get to help write it, product by product, as the brand itself continues to take shape.
What should candidates know about the strategy, creativity or collaboration behind marketing work at your company?
You'll be joining a team building products that move as fast as the industry they're reshaping — which means the strategy needs to be sharp and the creativity needs to keep pace. What makes this team different isn't just marketing expertise; it's that everyone here believes in what we're building and understands what's at stake for healthcare. That conviction shows up in the work itself, not just on a mission statement.
Altana is the world’s product network connecting businesses and governments on a common platform for global trade.
What’s it like to work on the marketing team at your company?
Fun, fast and intellectually engaging. The collapse of globalization is the most important geopolitical event of the twenty-first century; the rise of AI is the most important technological one. Being a marketer here means getting to live at the intersection of both. We contribute to the global, geopolitical discussion about the future of trade and help educate importers, logistics providers and customs agencies about how an end-to-end, agentic network for global trade helps save time and money, target enforcement and facilitate the flow of trusted shipments.
This makes every day exciting and varied. At one moment, I might be listening to a customer call to learn how we’re helping a business prove compliance and avoid border detentions. After that, I might be reading a brief on new policy regulations and translating for our prospects. And later, I might meet with academics to discuss macro trade and supply chain research. The throughline is learning and addressing the real, tangible problems facing the global trade system. It’s refreshing to work at a tech company in which the outcomes don’t feel ethereal. Our work determines how real goods and products move around the world.
How does your team shape the way customers, candidates or the market understand your brand?
Our mission is to fix globalization. We believe the way to make it happen is through a network for trusted trade. Brand awareness is critical. We need the market, our customers and top talent to associate us not just with trade, but also with trust and with a network.
We put a huge emphasis on surrounding potential buyers and members of the trade community with the Altana brand. This can be through major thought leadership content, like our Future of Trade Forum reports on trade topics like USMCA, earned media placements in top-tier business press and trade publications and executive communications. And it extends into our full suite of go-to-market activities: differentiated analyst briefings, targeted prospect targeting and advertising across channels, top-tier event marketing, rich product demos, thoughtful BDR outbounding and beautiful design and visual identity.
We have company values of trust, resilience, stewardship and courage, which imbue how we serve our customers and also how we work with each other internally. We constantly think about how our marketing activities –– a report, a design, an advertisement –– establish and reinforce these values in the market.
What should candidates know about the strategy, creativity or collaboration behind marketing work at your company?
I’ve been on great teams before, but this is the most fun, fast-moving and talented marketing team I’ve ever worked with.
Sharp strategies, creative problem-solving and collaborating to get stuff done are the table stakes. What makes our team unique –– and what candidates should know before they even apply here –– is that people who succeed with us blend intellectual curiosity, professional modesty and a commitment to their craft. Our marketing team includes leaders and practitioners who have scaled brand-name tech companies, run their own business, or managed customs and trade operations at multiple Fortune 500 companies. We value that expertise, but more than anything, we emphasize learning, getting better and deepening our understanding of our market over time. The pace of regulatory change means the global trade environment is totally different than it was 18 months ago; the tools available to us as marketers feel like they get more powerful every month. When I started at Altana, I wondered when I’d feel like I knew everything. I still don’t, never will and now I’m grateful for it, because daily intellectual rigor and continuous skill development is a feature of working here.
Justworks’ cloud-based platform is designed to offer businesses support with payroll, benefits, HR and compliance.
What's it like to work on the marketing team at Justworks?
We're in the middle of a real transformation at Justworks, moving from marketing as a service function to marketing as a strategic growth driver. That shapes the day-to-day: you're helping decide where growth comes from and how we get there.
The Justworks marketing team is deeply cross-functional; we work as one connected system rather than teams optimizing their own channels, and we partner closely with Product, Sales, and Customer Success to understand the challenges, wins, and general goings on of the founders we serve.Trust, speed, and service inform our work– AI is embedded in our core workflows, freeing people to focus on judgment and strategy rather than things like admin and manual reporting.
What stands out most about the team is how genuinely mission-driven it is. Justworks exists to help small businesses move forward with confidence, and it's the reason the work feels different. Small business is our only business, and that focus shows up in every decision the team makes. That also means the work is deeply customer-centric.
The marketing team is ambitious and low-ego. The best idea wins regardless of who it comes from, and we're united around one thing: helping small businesses grow with confidence.
How does your team shape the way customers, candidates, or the market understand your brand?
Our job is to make sure people understand what Justworks really stands for - the platform and partner for the small business journey - not just a name they've seen. Our work reaches several audiences: growth stage companies (currently and in the future part of our Justworks community), talent (Justworkers and amazing candidates in the field), and the business community.
For growth stage companies, we start with empathy, because we know running a business can be overwhelming. It may be easier than ever to start a business, but complexity has never been greater, which means there's more to worry about in 2026 than even just a few years ago. We want to celebrate founders’ strength and help them feel seen, while acknowledging the weight they carry. Everything we create reinforces one core promise: “you don’t have to worry when it Justworks.”
When it comes to talent, we work with our incredible People team to reach top candidates, no matter where they are in their career. We lean into storytelling, often through the lens of how Justworkers show up for our customers so any new hire really understands how mission-central our company is.
And, for the business community, our work brings stories from across the organization to life. We partner with our product and product marketing teams on integrated go-to-market activities to highlight new solutions and how we built them to meet SMBs where they are. AI is embedded across our platform to help customers get the answers they need when they need them. Agents answer what they can so our amazing customer support team has the space to step in when a human is needed for the solution.
Whether someone sees our branding on the NY-NJ ferry, attends one of our community events where our customers are always at the center, engages with a thought leadership piece on LinkedIn, reads about upcoming product launches in the press, or uses Justworks every day, each touchpoint should deliver our message consistently: we see you, founders, and we’re here to help you run your business. We build our products with that in mind and we hire great people with that at the center. That promise has to be felt, not announced; it shows up in the actual experience.
What should candidates know about the strategy, creativity, or collaboration behind marketing work at Justworks?
We're building what we believe is one of the best marketing teams in NYC-based tech. That means constantly raising the bar not just on our craft, but on how we orchestrate marketing across disciplines to create connected, end-to-end experiences.
Marketing is a strategic function at Justworks. Working closely with our CEO, CFO, CRO, and tech leaders across the organization, we are embedded and helping to drive company-level decision-making. These cross-functional partnerships eliminate silos, and help our teams feel a true sense of ownership in work because we’re all working toward common company-wide goals. We’re moving quickly, and in lock step–you can’t have one without the other.
That's where our culture of velocity comes in. We form strong hypotheses, get work into the market, learn fast, and improve - not speed for its own sake, but pairing thoughtful strategy with rapid learning and always keeping the trust of our community at the forefront. AI fluency and commercial fluency are baseline expectations here; the shift is from executing tasks to orchestrating outcomes.
If you're energized by high standards, real collaboration, and the chance to help reposition a category, you'll find people always pushing to get better.
