What Is It Like to Work at MongoDB India?

For Shreyansh Mishra, a chance discovery became the catalyst for a dynamic career at MongoDB.

While working as a journalist several years ago, Mishra came across a few articles about the database platform and its impact on the tech industry as a whole. These articles led him to MongoDB’s LinkedIn page, where he saw employees posting about the company’s positive culture and showcasing company-branded swag.

What Does MongoDB Do?

MongoDB is the intelligent data platform for the AI era, helping organizations move faster, build smarter, and simplify complex architectures.

The more Mishra learned about MongoDB, the more interested he became. Ultimately, he decided to leave journalism to pursue a role as a junior business development representative at MongoDB, where he’s worked for the past six years.

Today, Mishra serves as a regional director for MongoDB’s commercial business across the Asia-Pacific region, working out of the company’s Gurugram office in India. And so far, the experience of working at MongoDB has been hugely impactful on his career.

“The culture and the constant opportunities to grow are a big part of what has made my journey at MongoDB so rewarding,” Mishra said.

Mishra is just one of many professionals who’ve carved out multifaceted careers at MongoDB’s strategic global hub in India. Jatin Kinra is an engineering manager in the company’s Application Modernization Platform organization, which helps enterprise customers rebuild and modernize legacy applications using MongoDB. Since joining the company in March 2026, he said he’s experienced tremendous growth building the India platform team from the ground up. This task involved managing the hiring process, deciding where each new hire could have the most impact and building relationships with cross-functional teams.

What Is MongoDB’s Application Modernization Platform?

MongoDB’s Application Modernization Platform helps enterprise customers transform complex, outdated systems into scalable, modern services. The India platform team owns foundational capabilities including packaging and deployment, release automation, observability and configuration.

“I’ve had the opportunity to build a team, establish a new area of ownership, work with colleagues around the world and see the team deliver something meaningful — all within a relatively short period,” Kinra said.

Senior Engineering Manager Devender Yadav has also advanced professionally since joining MongoDB as a senior engineer several years ago. He recently led the effort to build and onboard a new AI-focused engineering team in India, bringing together people with diverse skills while creating the foundation for a strong, collaborative team. He also contributed to the launch of MongoDB’s newest AI product, Atlas Agent Engine.

“MongoDB India offers the reach and resources of a global technology company while giving employees the opportunity to shape new teams, products and initiatives,” Yadav said.

At MongoDB India, professionals build careers across a wide range of disciplines while finding ample room to shape the future of the organization.

What Projects Do Teams Work on at MongoDB India?

Earlier in his MongoDB career, Mishra was part of a group of sales representatives who tested and experimented with Marketing Qualified Lead (MQL) campaigns before they were rolled out across the company. Now, as a regional director, he continues to champion the MQL program across Asia-Pacific and Japan, and serves as an informal spokesperson for the initiative.

“For me, the MQL program was important because it started with trying something out, learning from it and then seeing it grow beyond just our team,” Mishra said. “It’s rewarding when something you’ve worked on can eventually have a broader impact across the organization.”

On the platform team, Kinra collaborates with engineers on technical decisions and execution and works with product and engineering partners on priorities and dependencies. He also continues to hire and develop the India platform team.

“It has been a busy start, but I’ve enjoyed it because there has been very little ‘waiting to get started,’” Kinra said.

Kinra has helped deliver numerous key platform capabilities that form the foundation of MongoDB’s Application Modernization Platform, which enables enterprises to transform complex, outdated systems into scalable, modern services. His team owns several foundational areas, including packaging and deployment, release automation, observability and configuration.

“While much of this work is behind the scenes, these capabilities are critical to how applications are built, deployed and operated on the platform,” Kinra said.

Yadav has also contributed to a wide range of projects throughout his time at MongoDB India. While working on the data engineering team as a senior engineer, he helped make the company’s data pipelines reliable and performant while managing infrastructure costs. This work improved how his team used compute, memory and storage in their data lake, helping them scale reliably while keeping costs under control.

“The result was a stable, cost-effective system capable of processing billions of records each day,” Yadav said.

Now, on the rapidly expanding Indian product and technology team — which has grown to approximately 110 engineers since launching 18 months ago — Yadav plays a key role in building the company’s AI products.

Recently, Yadav and the P&T team were an integral part of building Atlas Agent Engine, MongoDB’s new AI product. Launched in September 2026, the product provides a unified execution, memory and governance layer that helps organizations move AI agents from experimentation into production.

The India engineering team worked closely with teams in the U.S., Europe and Australia on the product, as well as other core capabilities within MongoDB's intelligent data platform, including key pieces of MongoDB 9.0, the latest major release of the company’s database platform.

MongoDB’s commitment to India represents a major long-term investment, with an overall regional footprint that has grown to more than 750 employees across Gurugram, Bangalore and Mumbai offices. While India has long been a critical hub for MongoDB’s regional business operations, last year the company launched a local engineering team to take advantage of the large talent pool in the market. The team has quickly evolved into a strategic global P&T engine, owning many critical pieces of MongoDB's platform end-to-end and contributing in a co-ownership model to many other parts of the platform.

Who Succeeds at MongoDB India?

MongoDB is scaling quickly, and Mishra’s growing go-to-market team is at the forefront of winning business with commercial customers.

The types of individuals who thrive on the commercial business team tend to be intellectually curious, operate with high integrity, take ownership and learn from others around them, he said.

“If you’re someone who wants to learn, take on challenges and grow, there are a lot of opportunities here,” Mishra said.

According to Kinra, two traits help members of the platform team work effectively: the ability to disagree amicably and a high degree of trust. Both skills are necessary because collaboration defines the team’s day-to-day work. He and his peers take part in regular design discussions, planning conversations and execution dependencies with teams spread around the world.

“We’re not just executing work that has been handed to us,” Kinra said. “The team is involved in the technical conversations and has the opportunity to influence how things are built.”

Meanwhile, Yadav described the AI and emerging products team as collaborative, inclusive and focused on ownership.

“People are encouraged to share ideas, learn from one another and take responsibility for outcomes,” Yadav said. But no one is expected to know everything from day one. Rather, they’re expected to embrace a continuous learning mindset and apply it to their day-to-day work.

“A willingness to learn, communicate openly and support your teammates can take you a long way,” Yadav said.

What Career Growth Opportunities Does MongoDB India Offer?

For Mishra, it’s not the projects alone that have accelerated his career growth. It's the people he gets to work with every day.

“The people I’ve worked with have invested a lot of time in me, taught me, challenged me and given me opportunities,” Mishra said. “You can come in for one role, but if you’re willing to learn and take on challenges, your journey can end up looking very different from what you originally imagined.”

Everyone at MongoDB India plays a critical role in driving business outcomes, Kinra said, and they’re supported by the company’s global reach and plentiful resources. This global scale, coupled with ample stretch opportunities, makes MongoDB India a great place to build a career, he said.

“You can work with talented colleagues around the world, contribute to products that have meaningful customer impact and see your responsibilities grow over time,” Kinra said.

As MongoDB India continues to scale, those who join its teams can expect to take on critical projects, become leaders and deepen their technical expertise — all while shaping the future of the business.

“If you’re looking for a place where you can keep learning, take ownership and build a meaningful long-term career, MongoDB India offers tremendous opportunities to grow and make an impact,” Yadav said.
