Waabi, a Toronto-based autonomous trucking company, has appointed Lior Ron as its new chief operating officer to help scale its commercial operations in preparation for the public launch of its driverless trucks later this year.
According to reporting by TechCrunch, Ron is a well-known figure in the logistics and autonomous driving industry, having previously served as CEO of Uber Freight, which began a partnership with Waabi in 2023 to accelerate the safe, large-scale deployment of AI-powered autonomous trucks.
In an interview, Ron shared with TechCrunch that during his time at Uber Freight, he met with numerous chief supply chain officers and major carriers who were eager for the arrival of self-driving trucks.
Since its founding in 2021, Waabi has raised more than $280 million in funding, allowing it to move quickly and efficiently toward commercialization.
