RideAustin reduces per-mile rates

In a new strategy to increase ridesharing driver incomes while lowering per-mile rates, RideAustin proposed on Wednesday sample fares that increase driver revenue when rider trips are short. The rates decreased from $1.50/mile to 99 cents, making it the cheapest ridesharing option in Austin. [Austin Business Journal]

 

U.S. Secretary Defense names Austin DoD's startup latest new home

On Wednesday during a visit to Austin, U.S. Secretary of Defense Ash Carter announced the launch of a new local team to support the initiatives of the department's startup DIVUx. The area group, housed out of Capital Factory, will focus on creating a collaborative team of joint reserves who already have a presence in the Austin tech space. Caringo brings in $5.2M round of planned $10M

Private cloud-based storage developer Caringo closed a $5.2 million round of financing of a planned $10 million, with twelve investors supporting the round. The company provides solutions for the Department of Defense, the Brazilian Federal Court System, City of Austin, Telefónica, British Telecom, Ask.com, Johns Hopkins University and hundreds more worldwide. Macromoltek collect $750k grant for biotech software

Macromoltek, a woman-led, minority-owned startup founded by Dr. Monica Berrondo, received a $750,000 grant by the National Science Foundation (NSF) to continue development of a molecular modeling suite focused on helping biotech companies get antibody therapeutics to market more quickly. Datical strengthens executive team with key hires from Google and Avnet

Database automation solution developer Datical announced some key hires following a significant increase in subscription revenue. Joining the team as Vice President of Business Development is Matt Fox, who comes from Avnet, and Google's current Cloud Platform Director of Customer Engagement Jamie Erbes, who will serve as strategic advisor to the Datical leadership team. Dell makes $1.6B deal with Open Text for software solutions

Last week, Dell finalized the acquisition of EMS for $67 billion, which included the purchases of three of its software programs. This week, they sold those three programs as part of its Enterprise Content Division (ECD) to Ontario-based Open Text for $1.6 billion. The deal is projected to take about 90 to 120 days to close.
