Sri Lanka, historically known as Ceylon and often referred to as “the teardrop of India,” has a growing economy based on agriculture, fishing, manufacturing, mining and tourism. That being said, the government has embarked upon a digitization campaign to focus on systems upgrades for the financial sector and government entities. This has helped lead to 51 percent growth in the ICT, or information and communication technology, workforce between 2014 and 2018. The country saw computer and information services become its second-largest source of export revenue in 2021.
