Backcasting is an accountability index for experts in their field. Every day, people are subjected to opinions of "experts" in their fields and when right, the experts will remind you of their victories, and often. But how often are their misses recorded? Factcheck.org does a great job of recording politicians truths and lies, but no where else are people kept accountable for their opinions, especially in the financial world where fear is used as a tool to motivate investors' actions.
What does BackCaster do?
Backcaster keeps track of predictions of the experts in various fields (finance, celebrity, sports) and assigns a rating based on accuracy.
How did the idea for Backcaster come about?
The founder, Amy Kirsch, worked at Merrill Lynch during the height of the financial crisis and was watching her clients make bad decisions based on opinions of people who knew little about what they were saying.
What are your goals for 2013?
To create a meaningful website that has outstanding capabilities of pulling social feeds, newspaper articles, and trends into an easy to read and helpful ratings metric. Ultimately, we want to create a social aspect where users can weigh in and track against the experts.
