
Lilt, a language service platform based in San Francisco, announced the close of a $25 million Series B led by Intel Capital on Tuesday. Existing investors Sequoia Capital, Redpoint Ventures and Zetta Venture Partners also participated in the round.
Lilt will use funds from the latest round for further research into the expansion of its language processing software.
The company combines computer-assisted translation (CAT) technology with its own AI engine and language management system in order to speed up the translation process for customer support teams around the world. Lilt’s translation engine is customized based on a client’s content and translation history.
“We believe that artificial intelligence can augment and amplify human ingenuity. By combining AI with technology-powered automation, businesses can achieve profound productivity gains across a wide range of essential functions,” Spence Green, CEO of Lilt, said in a statement.
Lilt’s CAT tool is compatible with over 40 different languages and has the ability to translate and automate responses that are consistent with a client’s existing brand voice.
“Automation helps drive the localization process forward by augmenting and amplifying the power of human project managers. Automation can make short work of formerly manually and potentially tedious processes,” Green said in a statement.
In addition to its investment in the AI translation software company, Intel Capital also announced an additional $107 million in investments in 10 other “disruptive” startups, including several located in the Bay Area, on Tuesday.
“Each of our recent investments is pushing the boundaries in areas such as AI, data analytics, autonomous systems and semiconductor innovation” Wendell Brooks, president of Intel Capital, said in a statement.
Lilt was founded in 2015 and has raised a total of $37.5 million in venture capital to date, according to the company. Its clients include Asics, WalkMe, Sprinklr and DigitalOcean. Lilt has additional offices in Indianapolis, Berlin and Dublin.
