Illinois will join the quantum computing ecosystem thanks to a new initiative by Infleqtion. The company will build the state’s first utility-scale, neutral atom quantum computer in Chicago as part of a $50 million partnership spanning the next four years.

The project is in collaboration with the Illinois Quantum and Microelectronics Park and the National Quantum Algorithms Center. Once complete, the platform will feature the next generation of Infleqtion’s Sqale quantum computer. The initiative is expected to generate new opportunities for capital investment, research acceleration and job creation. It will also support government-funded programs such as ARPA-E and the U.S. Army, private foundations like Wellcome Leap and other commercial partners.

Infleqtion plans to largely expand its headcount in Illinois, building out its workforce across engineering, commercialization, research roles and more. Additionally, the Illinois facility will become Infleqtion’s headquarters for quantum computing initiatives.
