HawkEye 360, a commercial provider of space-based radio frequency (RF) data and analytics, announced Monday the closing of its $145 million Series D. The funding round was led by Insight Partners and Seraphim Space Investment Trust. To date, HawkEye 360 has raised $302 million.

The Herndon-based data analytics company specializes in space-based RF mapping. It uses satellite constellations to detect, characterize and geolocate a broad range of RF signals. These constellations are made up of clusters of three satellites that fly in formation via specially designed propulsion systems. The data gathered from these satellites can then be used in a number of ways ranging from tracking down illegal fishing operations to assisting national defense operations.

HawkEye 360’s data and analytics teams are dedicated to delivering RF geospatial intelligence solutions to organizations trying to make the world a safer place. The company primarily works with those in defense, maritime and wildlife protection. In addition to its constellation of satellites, HawkEye 306 provides data processing, analysis tools and data fusion all in a secure, cloud-based platform.

The company will use the funding to expand satellite constellation and complementary infrastructure, accelerating its growth in the humanitarian, environmental, commercial and national security sectors.
