H2CHP, a zero-carbon power generation company, recently secured an additional £600,000 in funding from lead investor Tricapital Angels, according to reporting by Energy Voice. The raise builds on a previous £1.3 million in capital from Innovate UK, as the government agency invests in the development of prototype generators and conducting industrial trials.
The company, spun out from Durham University, has built a free-piston engine that can generate heat and power from liquid and gaseous fuels. Alongside its flexibility, the machine is 60 percent smaller and 25 percent lighter than a conventional internal combustion engine generator, according to the same article. This technology’s initial application is to eliminate emissions from idle ships that burn marine fuel when berthed.
H2CHP’s fresh capital will enable it to advance its solution. The Middlesbrough-based company also plans to establish a manufacturing base in Aberdeen and a control systems team in Edinburgh.
