Gaming is a serious business in India, where 568 million gamers have logged on to an economy worth $3.1 billion in fiscal year 2023.

As the tech capital of India, Bangalore is at the epicenter of this burgeoning industry, the vast majority of which revolves around mobile games. From fruit slicing to candy crushing, Bangalore gaming companies — like the ones listed below — are unlocking new levels in India’s gaming industry.

 

20 Gaming Companies in Bangalore to Know

Rockstar Games, the gaming powerhouse best known for its Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead series, came to Bangalore in 2011 to further its collaboration with outsourcing firm Technicolor India. In 2019, Rockstar grew its presence in Bangalore when it acquired India’s first gaming company, Dhruva Interactive, for $7.9 million.

 

Zynga, a California-based mobile app developer best known for Farmville and Words With Friends, moved its India studio to Bangalore in 2019. The studio, which employs more than 500 people, is the company’s largest office outside the U.S. The Bangalore studio works on several Zynga titles, like the Farmville series, as well as a number of action strategy and slot machine games.

 

Juego Studios has helped develop more than 500 games and apps, including basketball game NBA 2K21, mobile role-playing game School of Dragons and mobile slot machine games like Coin Kings. Headquartered in Bangalore, the company has grown to more than 300 employees since it was established in 2013. The studio is skilled in virtual reality, augmented reality and Web3 technologies.

 

Xigma Games, an indie game studio from Bangalore, created The Bonfire, in which players build settlements in terrain and fight monsters; Rubek, a color-based puzzle game; and Super Nano Jumpers, a retro-inspired game in which the player dodges obstacles while traversing dungeon-like settings. The company, which was founded in 2015, has twice won the Big Indie Pitch competition. 

 

Moonfrog Labs is a mobile game developer that has developed popular titles such as Teen Patti Gold, Ludo Club and Jalebi. Founded in 2013 by former Zynga employees, the Bangalore company has grown to more than 200 employees and has received financial backing from Sequoia Capital and Tiger Global. The company announced in 2021 that it was acquired by gaming company Stillfront Group.

 

Dumadu Studios, which was founded in 2010, has developed mobile games such as Pocket Bowling 3D, Dream Run-Endless Runner and Darts Ultimate Challenge. The company specializes in emerging technologies like virtual reality, augmented reality and mixed reality. The Bangalore company employs roughly 110 people and has worked with more than 130 clients.

 

Light & Wonder, formerly known as Scientific Games, is a Las Vegas-based gaming company that develops the slot machines and table games found at casinos. The company, which has an office in Bangalore, also offers online gambling options, as well as free-to-play casino games on social media. In 2023, it acquired SciPlay, a social gaming company with a portfolio of 11 games. 

 

Kwalee is a game development company, and it also publishes games made by other developers. Founded in 2011, the company has published more than 70 games for mobile, PC and consoles. The U.K. company employs more than 350 team members across the world, including its office in Bangalore. The Independent Game Developers’ Association named Kwalee the best game publisher in 2022.

 

Mobile Premier League is a Bangalore-based gaming company with more than 60 games — a mix of fantasy sports, card games and arcade games. The Bangalore company employs more than 200 team members around the world, and its growth has been recognized in Deloitte’s Technology Fast 50 India program. Some of its notable game titles include ZomBfense, Bankers vs. Humans and Candy Crush for Grind & Timer.

 

Hashcube is a Bangalore gaming company founded in 2008. Starting with a Sudoku game, the company built upon that idea to create its flagship game Sudoku Quest, in which a ninja traverses through several islands to master the “art of Sudoku.” Most of HashCube’s games are on mobile apps, but some, like Sudoku Quest, can also be played on Facebook.

 

GoodWorkLabs is a software and app development company that has developed games like Sesame Street’s Sharing is Caring game. Headquartered in Bangalore, its team of more than 150 employees has worked on games for mobile apps, websites and consoles like Xbox and PlayStation. iXie, the gaming division of Indium Software, started in 2011 as a game testing company, but it has since evolved to provide services across the game development lifecycle. DxMinds, which is headquartered in Bangalore, specializes in building apps, including gaming apps for mobile, Facebook and Windows. It developed the gaming platform AIO Games, which combines fantasy sports, puzzles and casino games in a single app. The company, which was founded in 2008, has grown its workforce to 200 employees and was named the best startup of 2020 by Silicon India.

 

Brewed Games is a small indie game studio in Bangalore. The eight-person team is gearing up to release its first game, Winds of Arcana: Ruination, in 2024. The game follows a character who must battle enemies as he travels through a dark medieval fantasy world in an effort to undo an ancient curse.

 

Cloudfeather Games, a Bangalore gaming company founded in 2020, allows players to tap into their competitive side in Bountyverse, a multi-game app where players put bounties on their high scores. Other players pay a fee to try to beat the high score, and the first to beat it wins a cash prize. Cloudfeather raised more than $1 million in seed funding in 2022, and it launched the app in 2023.

 

Junglee Games has developed everything from social casino games to role-playing games. Some of its most popular titles include fantasy cricket and football app Howzat, along with Junglee Rummy and Carrom Stars. Established in 2012 in San Francisco, the company was acquired by Flutter Entertainment Group in 2021. Junglee has a team of 750 employees in offices around the world, including its studio in Bangalore. 

 

Hypernova Interactive, a Bangalore gaming studio founded in 2015, says it is India’s first game studio with a fully functional motion capture pipeline. The company is expected to release its first game, Mayanagari, in 2024. Set in India with local languages, Mayanagari is an open-world gangster game similar to Grand Theft Auto.

 

GSN Games, a division of Sony Pictures’ Game Show Network, is known for its social casino games like Bingo Bash and its mobile app GSN Casino. The company opened a new Bangalore studio in 2016 to lead game development from start to finish. The Bangalore office has the capacity to seat 500 employees.

 

GOGAME is the developer of the GOGAME app, which allows players to win money by playing an assortment of more than 30 games ranging from chess to Fruit Chop.
