Netflix: Wicked Hard Decisions - Talk by Gibson Biddle, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m.

Join Product Austin at Galvanize this week for this speaker event featuring Netflix’s former VP of product Gibson Biddle. Biddle will speak on the tough decisions he had to make regarding people, product and business as the company grew to support over 100 million members. The talk will also include five interactive “What would you do?” case studies. Pizza and refreshments will be provided.

Intro to the Austin Startup Scene Happy Hour! Sept. 19 at 5:45 p.m.

New to the Austin startup scene? Head to Capital Factory on Tuesday to network and meet with some Austin startup scene organizers and members from the Austin tech community.

Tech and Agriculture Panel and Pitch Event, Sept. 20 at 6:30 p.m.

General Assembly is hosting a panel and lightning pitches from entrepreneurs, farmers, investors and educators who are using tech to shape the future of agriculture. Panelists include Jeff Bisberg, CEO of Illumitex;  Billy Tiller, co-founder of Grower Information Services Cooperative; Michael Hanan, co-founder of Agua Dulce Farm; and Nathan Dorn, CEO of Food Origins.

Star Trek Bridge Crew: Artificial Intelligence in VR with IBM Watson, Sept. 21 at 6 p.m.

Austin Data Science will meet at Galvanize this week to discuss how IBM Watson helps people virtually explore strange and new worlds. During the meetup, Michael Ludden, IBM’s director of product for IBM Watson Developer Labs & AR/VR Labs, will share how the Star Trek: Bridge Crew virtual reality game applies an artificial intelligence platform with enabled voice commands — by utilizing IBM Watson.

Latinos in Tech Austin Celebration, Sept. 21 at 6 p.m.

On Thursday, Latinos in Tech will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month at Indeed’s headquarters. Over 10 companies in Austin will come together to unite the Latinos in Tech community. The event will also feature a panel of Latino tech executives who will share their professional experiences as a Latino, how diversity and inclusion impact the tech industry, and what strategies help recruit and retain talent in an industry where Latinos make up a total of 4 percent of workers.
