Disrupting Urban Storage (Not Boring!!)

Take a look around your apartment (or house if you happen to be well-off).  And ask yourself this simple question, do I need all of this?  Now you might expect me to peddle a liberal ideology on how materialism can be destructive to our environment, but you’d be wrong.  The simple truth is that we don’t need 60% of the stuff that we have in our apartments or homes.

So what options are out there for those who are innovative and tech-savvy?  Well my personal favorite option is Blue Crates.  Blue Crates is an innovative startup out of Chicago that has turned self-storage on its head.  Instead of renting a concrete storage unit 45 minutes from your place, Blue Crates will drop off their plastic boxes for you.  They are about two feet long by about a foot and a half deep.  Enough space to store 20 sweaters or two dozen books that you meant to read.

After you have filled your blue crate, you take a picture of it off their app.  This enables you to see what is in each of your crates for when you are looking to finally read those books.  This simple solution enables you to keep all your summer clothes stored outside of your closet.  Then next May you can switch out your winter clothes for those summer polos and T’s.

I had the pleasure of interviewing Blue Crate’s Co-Founder Michael Walker in today’s Founder’s Report show.
