Two giants in the e-learning industry are joining forces in a new merger. Udemy and Coursera are consolidating their offerings in a transaction that will value the newly combined entity at $2.5 billion.

Udemy provides an AI-powered skills acceleration platform, equipping thousands of companies with on-demand learning content in multiple languages. Coursera serves 191 million users through an expansive catalog of content and credentials from its partnerships with more than 375 universities and industry organizations.

The business combination will build upon the two companies’ complementary strengths in skills, workforce training and career advancement, providing enterprise, university and government customers with increased value and choice within the talent transformation market. It will also offer a comprehensive instructor ecosystem while equipping educators with AI-enhanced tools and data-driven insights.

Additionally, the merger positions Coursera and Udemy to expand access to affordable, high-quality education through combined go-to-market capabilities and localization initiatives. The companies will also achieve greater operating efficiencies, with a projected annual run-rate cost savings of $115 million within the first two years of closing.
