Coinbase is furthering its commitment to the Australian market with the achievement of its latest milestone. Coinbase Australia has received an Australian Financial Services Licence with a retail derivatives authorization. Coinbase is the first crypto exchange to be granted this approval from the Australian Securities and Investments Commission.

The company first entered the Australian market in 2016, and after incorporating Coinbase Australia in 2022, the company launched a local platform offering PayID support, retail advanced trading and 24/7 customer support. Equipped with its new license, Coinbase Australia will be subject to the same standards of conduct, disclosure, governance and consumer protection as traditional financial services providers.

Coinbase can now bring its Everything Exchange platform to Australia, enabling it to offer crypto and equity perpetuals to Australian customers, followed later by futures and options trading. Adam Judd, Coinbase Australia’s chief operating officer, will oversee the management of the financial services license.
