Toronto-based Canadian Space Mining Corporation has rebranded as Canadian Strategic Missions Corporation, signaling its transition into a space and defense-focused company.
According to a news release, CSMC was originally founded as a space resources startup and will expand its mandate to develop dual-use technologies with both terrestrial and off-world applications following recent contracts and collaborations with the Canadian Department of National Defence, NATO and the European Space Agency.
Central to the company’s new direction is CSMC Nuclear, which will oversee the development and commercialization of the LEUNR microreactor, a compact, transportable nuclear energy system designed to provide reliable, low-emission power in remote and extreme environments.
“Our evolution to Canadian Strategic Missions Corporation is about more than a new name. It reflects our refined purpose and mission-driven objectives. Canada needs sovereign capabilities to power and protect its future, and secure its prosperity from the Arctic to the moon. CSMC exists to deliver those capabilities through innovation, partnerships and national leadership,” Daniel Sax, CEO of CSMC, said in a statement.
