Apple has announced a new $100 billion commitment to expand its domestic operations, bringing its total planned investment in the U.S. to $600 billion by 2029.

According to a company news release, Apple introduced the American Manufacturing Program to expand advanced manufacturing and increase domestic production of critical components, building on partnerships with companies like Corning, Coherent, GlobalWafers America, Samsung, GlobalFoundries, Amkor and Broadcom, while also incentivizing more global suppliers to manufacture in the U.S.

Currently, about two-thirds of the components Apple produces in the U.S. are exported to customers around the world.

As part of the announcement, Apple also plans to hire 20,000 people in the U.S. in the same time frame, focusing on roles in research and development, silicon engineering, software development and machine learning.
