Sunil Gopinath Appointed CEO of Albertsons Companies India

Gopinath brings over 25 years of experience in leading and scaling global operations. He will lead a new global technology and innovation center based in Bengaluru.

Albertsons Companies has named former Rakuten executive Sunil Gopinath as CEO of Albertsons Companies India, selecting him to lead the launch of the U.S. food and drug retailer’s new global technology hub in Bengaluru. 

According to a press release, Gopinath brings over 25 years of experience in leading and scaling global operations, with a background in retail, e-commerce and digital technology. 

The center will play a key role in building modern, scalable tech solutions to improve the company’s core systems, expand the use of AI and data science and drive digital transformation across the business. Over the next 18 months, it will grow its team and work closely with counterparts in the U.S. and Manila to create tools that enhance the shopping experience for more than 40 million weekly customers.

On Gopinath’s appointment, Albertsons’s Anuj Dhanda said in a statement: “[Gopinath’s] deep expertise in scaling innovation hubs and leading transformative digital initiatives makes him the ideal leader to shape our Bengaluru global capability center into a powerhouse of retail technology. He is not just building a team. He’s cultivating a culture of innovation that will drive our enterprise forward and redefine the grocery experience for millions of customers worldwide.”
