Tech Content Author with Spiceworks

Why it’s cool: Ok, so admittedly tech writing isn’t the sexiest thing in the writing world, but it is among the best paid gigs around. Plus, it’s with Spiceworks which is just a cool all-around company.

What you would write: White papers, case studies and infographics.

Who’s your audience: You would be writing to an audience of IT people, so good luck with that.

Who they’re looking for: A techie who is a fantastic storyteller. If you can turn data points into an interesting and compelling read, this is your niche.

Jr. U.K. Editor with theCHIVE

Why it’s cool: Well, to start with, the job is at theCHIVE, which is about as cool as you can get. Secondly, your job would be to be super creative. You would also be helping to launch the publication’s UK site, so it would look super-impressive on your resume for future gigs (assuming you ever want to leave).

What you would write: Viral content in theCHIVE’s voice — think smart, snarky and sexy.

Who’s your audience: British people. Alexa seems to think that the site has a huge female audience, but I’m going to go ahead and guess they got that one dead wrong.

Who they’re looking for: Somebody who can pump out 4-5 pieces of viral content a day and understands the sorts of things British people find engaging -- so, posts about tea and imperialism?

What you would write: It would likely vary widely depending on the project.

Who’s your audience: Clients

Who they’re looking for: Somebody who is equally capable as a writer and strategic leader.

Social Media Community Manager at Main Street Hub

Why it’s cool: The company was founded at Stanford University, so you know the big-wigs are super smart or at least well connected. Plus, you’d have the opportunity to be the voice for a bunch of local companies, which is pretty cool.

Who’s your audience: You would be writing to whoever the customers of your clients are. You would definitely get to be super-creative.
