We are seeking an experienced Automation Engineer to work at our Defense Business facilities for fabrication and assembly of rocket motor components and assemblies in Camden, AR. The position will report to the Manufacturing, Infrastructure, Architecture, Modernization & Integration (MIAMI) team.

The selected candidate will work with the manufacturing and facility teams to develop, mature, and transition automation solutions to improve manufacturing capability, effectiveness, and employee safety. The automation engineer will initially focus on Research and Development activities for rocket motor manufacturing but will also support other initiatives within the scope of automation and I4.0. This automation team works with stakeholders to identify opportunities in the manufacturing process, draft technical requirements and craft solutions which align with the organization's vision for manufacturing modernization.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead the automation solutions through project management activities, developing requirements, working with key suppliers, testing the automation, and transitioning the solution to the production team.
  • Specialize in developing automation solutions for the Aerojet Rocketdyne segment.
  • Automation Systems Engineering lifecycle which includes developing requirements, creating conceptual solutions, preparing plans, managing suppliers, testing systems, and handing off the system to the end user.
  • Support the Development and implementation of the vision for the automation systems engineering team, creating standards to drive commonality, easier transitions to production, and system support.
  • Troubleshoot existing systems to resolve issues and focusing on continuous improvement.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree and minimum 4 years of prior manufacturing experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior manufactyuring experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior manufacturing experience.
  • Requires a bachelor's degree in Mechanical engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Chemical Engineering.
  • This requires motivated, self-starting individuals with a passion for technical creativity and the ability to work with others to achieve results.
  • Knowledge of automation systems design/sustainment involving robotic cells, custom automation solutions, vision systems, motion control or testing solutions.
  • Programming Control systems: PLC, HMI's, VFDs, etc.
  • Experience developing statements or work and functional requirements specification documents
  • Ability read electrical design schematics.
  • Experience integrating automation systems to business and manufacturing systems.
  • Knowledge of automation, robotics, or testing solutions required.

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Experience in project management.
  • Experience managing 3rd automation integrators.
  • Experience programming Fanuc robotics systems and simulations.
  • Experience with parametric modeling solutions.
  • Project management desired.
  • Working with 3rd party automation integrators desired.
  • Programming Control systems: PLC, HMI's is desired.
  • Programming robotics is desired.
  • Developing statements or work and requirements definition is desired.
  • Parametric modeling is desired.
  • Developing automation simulations is desired.
