About the Role

As a Senior Staff Engineer, you will have a crucial role in designing, developing, and delivering complex digital solutions for our clients. Working closely with cross-functional teams, including designers, product managers, and fellow engineers, as a Staff Engineer, you will create innovative web and mobile applications. Throughout the development lifecycle, you will be expected to provide accurate estimations at both the task and project level, continuously forecasting and mitigating risk to ensure timely delivery and optimal performance of builds. You will also need to lead engineering decisions, guide best practices, and continuously mentor the contributing engineers assigned to these projects you supervise.

Your technical expertise and leadership will be instrumental in guiding the development process and ensuring the highest standards of quality and performance. You will also help advance the continued growth of the Web team by suggesting best practices and evaluating available frameworks and toolchains that help establish the technical direction for the web development practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Technical Leadership: Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineering teams, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement
  • Architecture and Design: Collaborate with architects and product managers to design scalable and efficient solutions that meet client requirements
  • Development: Write high-quality, maintainable code using the right tool for the job, fix problems are the right level of abstraction and optimize to meet both functional and non-functional goals
  • Code Reviews: Conduct thorough code reviews to ensure code quality, adherence to best practices, and alignment with project goals
  • Performance Optimization: Identify and address performance bottlenecks and architectural improvements to ensure optimal application performance
  • Client Communication: Interact directly with both technical and non-technical clients to gather requirements and provide insights that offer guidance on feasibility of implementation
  • Problem Solving: Tackle complex technical challenges, troubleshoot issues, and propose innovative solutions to ensure project success
  • Documentation: Create and maintain technical documentation to facilitate knowledge sharing and onboarding of team members
  • Stay Current: Stay up-to-date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to continuously enhance and expand your technical skill set

What We Expect

  • 8+ years of professional software development experience, preferably in Web frontend and backend development
  • A degree in Computer Science or related field and/or knowledge on CS foundations, such as data structures, networking, security, and performance.
  • A proven track record of strong technical mentorship
  • High level of fluency and experience with technologies and frameworks like, but not limited to, some of our most prevalent languages: TypeScript, Node.js/NestJS, GraphQL, Python/Django, GoLang - or deep experience with any relevant transferrable technologies
  • An apparent passion about being efficient and collaborative, with a track record of building strong relationships with UX and Product Management teams across multiple time zones and geographic regions
  • A proficiency in systems thinking and systems design concepts, such as transactions, atomicity, idempotency, and the ability to apply these concepts effectively to complex projects
  • An inclination to raise the bar for quality and speed within the team, driving increased team efficiency and positioning the platform for maximum impact
  • Strong understanding of agile principles such as open communication, continuous feedback, and efficient decision-making with experience in a variety of agile methodologies and project development workflows
  • A history of personal projects or contributions to the open-source community; active publication on web development-related topics is highly regarded
  • Excellent written and spoken English skills that are essential for effective communication within our diverse and collaborative team

Interview Process

  1. Kudos for submitting your application, you’ll be hearing from us within the next 48 hours!
  2. Well done, you scored an interview! We’ll set up a Google Meet for an initial screening with a member of our Talent team to formally introduce you to Fueled! You’ll have the opportunity to ask any questions you might have. This screening will last approximately 30 minutes.
  3. The next step in our process requires you to complete a minimal coding exercise and submit back to us within a given timeframe. If your code exercise passes our evaluation, we’ll set up a technical interview with one of our Web developers. In this interview we will ask you to make adjustments to your code, so please be prepared. This chat will last approximately 1 hour.
  4. If all goes well after the technical round, you'll chat with Saurabh Kumar (Director of Web Engineering), and Sage Young (Executive Director, Engineering and Technology) to better assess your skills and experience. In this call, you’ll be able to ask questions about team dynamics, current practices, expectations, etc. The interview will be approximately 1 hour.
  5. Congrats! You made it, and we will be sending you an offer.
