The compensation of this role is:

Level 3 (Senior): Maturing: $135k AUD/$145k NZD Performing: $145k AUD/$155k NZD

Level 4 (Lead): Maturing: $160k AUD/$170k NZD Performing: $170k AUD/$180k NZD


Overview of Role

The Frontend Foundation team has a growing set of responsibilities to enable our product teams to deliver quality experiences. Currently, we are focused on maturing our design system. Next, we are expanding our custodianship to include in-app messaging & micro surveying capabilities. We are currently uncovering a potential roadmap ahead to support this function.

What you’ll do

  • Take our design system to the next level of desired maturity
  • Bring a strong interaction design nous and attention to detail that will guide engineers and designers towards world-class interaction and visual design
  • Map out user flows to help identify opportunities and identify best practises to guide design input for micro survey/in app messaging
  • Ensure the design system can support the necessary components and patterns for messaging and surveying
  • Collaborate with discipline leads and engineers to ideate, implement and deliver solutions
  • Present to wider stakeholders groups
  • Support and guide our internal teams on design system best practices
  • Contribute to our Figma component library 
  • Provide well written concise design documentation
  • Present thought out solutions backed by clear design rationale

What you will bring

  • 2+ years of working with a design system that multiple teams use
  • 7+ years of working in product design 
  • Experience working on a B2B saas product or complex domain space
  • Basic understanding of front end development (html, css, js)
  • Ideally worked with or have implemented design tokens
  • Experience with behavioural analytics and data driven outcomes

Interview Process

Below is the interview process you can expect for this role. We know interviewing can seem daunting, but rest assured we designed our interview process to move quickly while still getting you all the information you need.


👋🏼Initial chat [30 min]

Talent acquisition screen: Meet with your Talent Acquisition team and get a feel for what it would be like to be an Octonaut!


💻Technical assessment [60–90 min]

Technical assessment: Designed to showcase your skill set, we give you in-house exercises to gauge your professional scope and expertise.


🧑‍💻Hiring manager chat [45–60 min]

Hiring manager chat: Designated time to chat with the hiring manager. This is a great opportunity to get to know each other. You should expect the hiring manager to ask questions about your professional background and goals. We welcome any questions you may have for us!


🎉Panel interview [60–90 min]

Final round chat: In this final round call, you meet cross-functional team members. You can expect a mix of leaders and individual contributors to join the chat. By the end of this call, you should have a great idea of what it’s like to work at Octopus. We should also have a great idea of what it would be like to have you on the team! We’ll ask any final questions and encourage you to do the same.
