Chestnut Carbon is a forestry and nature-based investor and carbon offset developer focused on projects of the highest quality through afforestation and reforestation strategies. Chestnut is accelerating the path to net zero through nature-based carbon sequestration projects that are additional, bio-diverse, and verifiable. Chestnut Carbon envisions the acquisition, afforestation, and management of a 500,000 – acre operating land base by 2030.

 


As the Sr. Financial Analyst of a nature-based solutions company committed to developing high-quality voluntary carbon offset projects you will play an essential role in supporting Executive team members to make strategic decisions across Chestnut Carbon. This role will provide support across key initiatives such as financial modeling, fundraising, market research, due diligence, and more. This role will be integral in our fast-paced growth over the next few years and beyond, which may include a public offering. This role is for someone who enjoys being challenged and will thrive in a dynamic and ever-changing environment. You will have significant exposure to senior leaders including the CEO, CFO and other key stakeholders across the business and finance functions at Chestnut Carbon and our financial sponsor, Kimmeridge.

Responsibilities

  • Play a key role in supporting our consolidated strategic and financial planning processes, and evolving the underlying integrated financial forecast models, systems, and tools.
  • Develop a strong understanding of our company, strategy, and industry.
  • Support fundraising and financing activities by building and maintaining long-term financial models, debt structure, scenario planning forecasts and Board materials.
  • Act as a liaison between stakeholders across the business to drive the execution of Chestnut Carbon’s corporate goals.
  • Collaborate across the organization to overcome problem areas/features.
  • Utilize financial modeling skills to determine financial viability of early-stage projects in Chestnut’s development pipeline.
  • Help screen potential M&A opportunities and provide valuation analysis for senior management.
  • Gather information, identify linkages/trends and apply findings to analyses.
  • Assist in the delivery of strategy projects and provide clear transparency on progress ensuring effective communication across senior leaders at Chestnut Carbon and other key stakeholders.
  • Support on market research and competitive benchmarking.

Desired Qualifications and experiences

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Accounting or related discipline; MBA a plus.
  • 3+ years of related experience in corporate finance and/or FP&A, corporate development, venture capital/private equity, capital markets, and clean/renewable energy, specifically in investment banking, corporate planning or equivalent.
  • Excellent financial modeling skills with strong knowledge of financial statements.
  • Project and/or corporate finance deal experience preferred.
  • Prior experience/knowledge of real estate transactions a plus.

  • Strong analytical skills with high proficiency in financial modeling (Excel), including the ability to model complex debt structures, and data analysis tools.

  • Strong communication skills within all levels of the organization, including verbal, written and nonverbal communication, ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner.

  • Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and attention to detail with the ability to work in a tight timeframe and shift priorities as needed.

  • Must be a self-starter, willing to step up where needed across a flat and dynamic organization.

  • Demonstrates a high degree of commercial and strategic acumen.

  • Strong team-building skills, adept at forging positive relationships across the business.
  • Some domestic travel (~5%) required.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.

During each fiscal year of employment, employees will be eligible to earn a discretionary annual incentive bonus, based on company and individual performance targets.
