Heat Exchanger (Hx) Applications Pursuit Engineer

Department

Powertrain Cooling (PTC) / Hx Engineering

Job Description

The selected candidate will be responsible for specifying and developing thermal management components including heat exchangers meeting customer specifications and completing pre-validation projects.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Understand / Interpret automotive thermal management components/systems engineering specifications
  • Propose new component / system designs based on RFQ requirements
  • Create / guide creation of BOMs
  • Support cost save initiatives employing engineering simulation tools
  • Perform Hx and system performance simulations using 1D tools and calculations
  • Assure conformity of proposed designs with customer specifications and regulatory requirements
  • Provide direction to CAD, CAE/CFD and test personnel
  • Develop Design Validation test Plans and engineering cost proposals
  • Interface with customers (internal and external)
  • Update core engineering standards and support DFMEA and regulatory requirement tools
  • Execute and document all required product design corporate deliverables
  • Interface frequently with Hanon core engineering, CAD, CAE/CFD, test personnel, global Product Development, Manufacturing and Program Management activities

Years of Experience

  • 5+ years in Thermal Components and Systems Engineering

Education

  • Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering required; Master preferred

Desired Competencies, Experience, & Qualifications

  • Mastery of Heat Transfer and Thermodynamics, including numerical methods application
  • Demonstrated ability to design, develop, test, PTC/HVAC/Thermal Management Module (TMM) components and systems
  • Experienced in design of injection molded plastic, formed aluminum components and brazed aluminum assemblies
  • Experience with rapid prototype processes and principles
  • Able to interpret CFD and CAE/FEA results
  • Experienced in technical planning and project management
  • Ability to conduct Technical Design Reviews
  • Proven proficiency in 1D performance simulation tools, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint

Special Requirements (i.e., Overtime, Travel, etc.)

  • Travel required to suppliers, customers and corporate manufacturing plants; international as required. Overtime may be required during some time periods.
