We are responsible for the end-to-end digital and physical Guest experience for all technology and digital-led initiatives across the Attractions & Entertainment, Food & Beverage, Resorts & Transportation and Merchandise lines of business as well as other initiatives including MyDisneyExperience and Hey, Disney!
This role is a part of the Retail & Restaurant Commerce Technology organization within Disney Experiences Technology & Digital. It works closely with a diverse team of engineers and service owners from across the company.
The Principal Software Engineer (Developer / Software Engineer) will report to the Senior Manager of Software Engineering.
What You'll Do

  • End to end engineering lead responsible for the implementation and automation of the Point of Sale system.
  • Owns and leads large development projects and team where a project comprises multiple components.
  • Identifies new directions and opportunities; champions the development of innovative solutions.
  • Works closely with management and architects to produce highly complex and sophisticated software on design projects that span several groups.
  • Performs strategic research and design for one or more major technical areas.
  • Monitors emerging technologies and proposes the adoption of appropriate new technologies.
  • Uses expert knowledge to develop creative solutions to critical issues and complex design problems.
  • Exercises exceptional judgment in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria to resolve issues.
  • Works on unprecedented and exceptionally complex technical issues requiring major vision, creativity, and proactive solutions.
  • Overseeing, influencing, and mentoring collaborative project teams, inclusive of on-shore and off-shore development resources, key clients, and other technical groups in the organization.
  • Ability to use your subject matter expertise knowledge to reverse engineer how things work from code bases that do not have documentation or historical explanation
  • Recommends improvements to processes, technology, and interfaces that improve the effectiveness of the team
  • Identifies new directions and opportunities; champions the development of innovative solutions.
  • Oversees the development, programming, testing and debugging of major software development projects.
  • Creates protocols, documentation and tools for the installation and maintenance of innovative software projects.


Required Qualifications & Skills

  • 10+ years of progressively related experience in design, development, and implementation of highly scalable, high-volume software systems and components, client-facing web applications, and major Internet-oriented applications and systems.
  • 4-6 years of project or team lead experience.
  • Experience targeting Kubernetes for web application development
  • In-depth knowledge of DPEP Technology & Digital Retail and Restaurant business processes and integrations, such as: Item Countdown, Item & Item Set Hierarchies, Location Configuration Hierarchy, Share Pick Groups, Pricing Modes, Kitchen Integrations, RBAC in a Point of Sale, Table Service Restaurant Functionality
  • Certifications or working experience of ITIL and Agile processes.


Preferred Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience with Point of Sale
  • Experience with Appetize Point of Sale systems
  • Previously engineered adding major features to a pre-existing Point of Sale solution (stadiums, merchandise, table service)
  • Prior experience with separating a monolith into microservices
  • Understand and analyze data pipelines, algorithms, and automated systems
  • Basic knowledge integrating cloud-based data pipelines and analytics services
  • Experience with mobile development (Android/iOS native, web apps designed for mobile)
  • Cloud (AWS/GCP/Azure) certification.
  • In-depth, advanced expertise in relevant technologies, such as: CS Fundamentals, Development tools like Eclipse, Cloud Technologies, Java/JavaScript, SQL/ NoSQL data modeling, MongoDB and DynamoDB,JSON Messaging,Database Designs,Redis Caching,HTTP/HTTPS Protocol,Web Services (SOAP & REST) ,HTML/XHTML/DHTML & CSS, Jenkins, GitLab CI, Harness, Prometheus, VictoriaMetrics, ELK, Grafana, Splunk, AppDynamics, NewRelic, Firebase, DevOps fundamentals, Test Automation concepts, Software Performance Optimization


Education

  • Bachelors in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field/work experience.
