Meet The Team: 

Torc is looking for a Principal Engineer to join a team responsible for defining, tracking, and steering the safety of our autonomous driving product. This team provides a central role in the product development process by developing and tracking safety cases for our major releases. Our belief is that measurability is the first step to safety and this role will drive explicit measurability and quantification of safety. The team works closely with product management, system and test engineering, legal and regulatory teams, software, hardware, and safety teams and domain experts.

What You’ll Do:  

  • Continuously assess the completeness of safety case. 
  • Interpret safety data and apply appropriately in data analysis. 
  • Perform the appropriate statistical analysis to provide unbiased results as needed.  
  • Develop innovative analytical approaches to identify and predict product risks through data analysis and reporting. 
  • Develop insights to share with a wide variety of audiences to enable effective decision making.  
  • Collaborate with Safety, Engineering, Regulatory and Product to arrive at actionable insights. 
  • SME in applied reliability/probabilistic analysis and sampling design 
  • Mentor other team members, growing the overall autonomy and quantitative expertise of the team.  
  • Collaborate cross functionally with other principal engineers to seek optimal solutions.  

What You’ll Need to Succeed: 

  • Demonstrate competences and technical proficiencies acquired through:
    • BS+ 20+ years of experience, MS+ 10+ years of experience, or PHD+ 7+ years of experience.
  • Advanced degree in statistics, applied mathematics, operations research, or actuarial science.
  • Proficiency in statistical data analyses such as sampling design, reliability, demonstration testing, accelerated validation testing plans, analysis of variance, time series analysis, Weibull analysis.
  • 5+ years of experience with System Performance Analysis for a HW/SW system. 
  • 3 + years of experience in applied statistical analysis. 
  • 3+ years with quantitative risk management methods.  
  • Proficiency in one or more data mining / predictive modeling tools such as Python and R as well as proficiency in SQL. 
  • Experience using various methods to analyze text/unstructured data. 
  • Ability to effectively communicate results and methodologies. Must have experience presenting to executive leadership. 
  • Must have strong work ethic and drive for results and the ability to work in an ambiguous workspace. 
  • Open to occasional travel to offices/test facilities.  

Bonus Points: 

  • Domain Knowhow of autonomous or Driver Assistance, incl. multimodal sensor configuration 
  • Understanding of vehicle safety technologies including design intent, function and intended performance in the field.  
  • Experience with designing and developing system and software in accordance with quality, functional safety and security standards (ASPICE, ISO 262626, ISO/SAE 21434)

US Pay Range

$226,400$271,700 USD
