Responsibilities:

  • Provide Indianapolis sites support to implement Waste related regulatory requirements and enable site Waste and USDOT program compliance;
  • Develop Waste related program documents in support of Indianapolis Environmental Services (IES) efforts to promote program compliance, support waste goals and drive program efficiencies;
  • Support central IN sites in preparing external reports to governmental agencies, such as the Annual Manifest/Biennial reports, Exception Reports etc.;
  • Participate and support the Lilly Waste Forum, Waste Management Steering Team, Internal and External Steering Teams;
  • Maintain the IES collaboration spaces for the activities of WM;
  • Be an active participant in the Lilly Research Labs (LRL) Environmental Tech Team;
  • Perform administrative activities for Lilly's External Waste Facility process;
  • Participate in and provide written findings from company compliance audits, External Waste Facility (EWF) audits and perform reviews of EWF audits performed by others;
  • Own the RCRA Large and Small Quantity Generator Training and the RCRA Manifest Training;
  • Develop and support the RCRA eManifest system for Lilly business units through the IES collaboration space;
  • Provide Lilly Indianapolis business units (BU's) with their completed Manifest copies returned;
  • Provide stewardship and/or serve as Member Contact for external vendors;
  • Support Lilly sites in the review and critique of their Waste Site Self-Assessments;
  • Assisting in updates and revisions to the site integrated contingency plan;
  • Review and update Waste Profiles;
  • Assist in maintaining the sites RCRA operating record;
  • Conducts site Self-assessments for environmental aspects;
  • Track and maintain the manifest tracking tool;

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Natural Resources & Environmental Sciences or related science, or relevant equivalent experience
  • Minimum 5 years working experience in the regulatory environment (e.g. IDEM) in support of compliance with solid and hazardous waste related regulations;
  • Minimum 5 to 15 years working experience in developing and supporting environmental programs to comply with all environmental regulations;
  • Regulatory training in RCRA and DOT.

Additional Skills/ Preferences:

  • Experienced in providing and delivering leader led training on the requirements associated with solid and hazardous waste and USDOT hazardous materials is a plus;
  • Experience with applying rules concerning solid and hazardous waste and USDOT within the pharmaceutical industry is a plus;
  • CHMM preferred.
  • Master degree in any of these disciplines noted above;
  • Ability to communicate, both verbally and in writing, across a broad group of people to influence HSE associates and their management;
  • Effectively manage relationships, particularly as it relates to HSE colleagues who we depend upon to implement program requirements;
  • Prior experience in managing relationships with in-plant services contractors who perform a broad array of waste management services is a plus;
  • Thorough technical understanding of the regulatory requirement of solid and hazardous waste management, as well as USDOT rules concerning Hazardous Materials;
  • Experience in root cause analysis and incident investigation;
  • Certified Hazardous Materials Manager, Masters level, and/or Quality Environmental Professional (QEP) Certification
  • Good organizational skills are required.

Additional Information:

  • Normal working hours at Lilly Technology Center - South (LTC-S).
  • Onsite presence is required the majority of the time. This is not a remote role.
  • Travel is possible, infrequent, less than 10% of the time.
