Reporting to the VP of Product, the Technical Writer will play a crucial role in translating complex technical information into clear and accessible documentation. Your primary responsibility will be to create user guides, manuals, online help systems, and other documentation to assist users in understanding and effectively utilizing our products or services. You will collaborate closely with subject matter experts, developers, and other stakeholders to gather information and ensure accuracy in the documentation. Attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to organize and present information in a user-friendly manner are essential for success in this role.


THIS ROLE IS BASED IN SOUTH AFRICA AND THE CANDIDATE MUST BE BASED AND ELIGIBLE TO WORK IN SOUTH AFRICA

Education: Required Background/Experience:

  •  1 to 2 years of experience in a Technical Writer role, preferably in SaaS or public safety environments. 
  • Bachelor's degree in English, Technical Writing, Communications, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Proven experience as a technical writer, preferably in the software industry.
  • Strong writing and editing skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, concise, and user-friendly documentation.
  • Proficiency in documentation tools and software, such as Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, Confluence, or similar tools.
  • Knowledge of technical writing best practices, style guides, and documentation standards.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality documentation.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.

Other Skills/Abilities (Preferred but not Required):

  • Experience with content management systems (CMS) and knowledge bases.
  • Familiarity with Agile development methodologies and tools, such as JIRA or Confluence.
  • Basic understanding of software development processes and technologies.
  • Experience with localization and internationalization of documentation for global audiences.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Develop and maintain a variety of technical documentation, including user guides and manuals, providing internal teams with essential guidance on how to effectively use a product or service.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts and developers to gather information about product features, functionality, and specifications.
  • Organize and structure content in a logical and intuitive manner to facilitate easy navigation and comprehension by end users, facilitating faster and smoother adoption of RapidDeploy products and technologies.
  • Write clear, concise, and grammatically correct documentation tailored to the target audience. Edit and revise documentation as needed to ensure accuracy, clarity, and consistency.
  • Incorporate visuals, diagrams, screenshots, and videos to enhance the clarity and effectiveness of documentation.
  • Review documentation drafts with stakeholders for feedback and incorporate suggested revisions as necessary.
  • Update and maintain existing documentation to reflect changes in product features, updates, or enhancements.
  • Conduct quality assurance checks on documentation to ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to style and formatting guidelines.
  • Proactively communicate new or updated documentation to relevant stakeholders, enabling them to remain up to date on the latest information.
