The Opportunity

We are seeking a dedicated Intermediate Level Software Engineer-Java/ Cloud API who will be working with the Content Management Systems Transformation team in USAA's Chief Tech and Experience Office . This program is building a transformative digital content ecosystem that enables efficient, compliant, personalized experiences and the delivery of effective, cross-channel messaging to members and employees. This role will participate in building and transforming the largest member facing platform getting implemented in the Public Cloud Infrastructure. This individual will work alongside energetic engineers to build this modernized, highly resilient, compliant Digital Content Management Platform. Calling for individuals having the right attitude, aptitude, ownership mindset to learn and grow.

We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week This position will be based out of San Antonio; TX, Plano; TX or Phoenix; AZ. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

Within defined guidelines and framework, provides support to the Enterprise through delivering best in class technology solutions. Engaged in all phases of the software systems and application development lifecycle which include gathering and analyzing requirements, designing, testing, documenting, and implementing software, responding to outages.

What you'll do:

  • Design, develop, code, and test technical solutions
  • Write code to deliver features, and improvements, on a regular basis
  • Investigates and resolve technical problems and production issues through troubleshooting techniques
  • Continually improves operations by conducting systems analysis and recommending changes in policies and procedures.
  • Prepares and installs solutions by determining and designing system specifications, standards, and programming.
  • Follows the software development lifecycle.
  • Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

What you have:

  • Bachelor's Degree or 4 additional years of experience beyond the minimum requirement can be used in lieu of a degree OR Approved certification from CodeUp, Galvanize, VetFIT (Veterans for IT) or eFIT (Employees for IT).
  • 2 years of software development experience specific to a discipline/technology.
  • 1 year of experience delivering technology solutions in all phases of the software systems and application development lifecycle.
  • Basic Understanding of one or more of the following: Java, Swift, Objective-C, Cobol, JavaScript, Kotlin, C++, HTML, CSS, SQL
  • Knowledge and understanding of troubleshooting applications and systems within production issues.
  • Ability to quickly understand applicable business acumen to provide appropriate Engineering solutions
  • Ability to effectively articulate technical challenges and solutions.
  • Basic understanding of cloud technologies and tools.

What sets you apart:

  • 2 years Java Development experience with Microservices/REST API
  • Ability to develop and maintain high-performance APIs using AWS services like Lambda and API gateway.
  • Experience monitoring API performance, optimizing code, and scaling the API infrastructure
  • Experience developing and executing test cases to validate the functionality, reliability, and scalability of APIs
  • Strong Trouble shooting skills using Kibana, Datadog or similar tools.
  • Experience developing in Adobe Experience Manager or a Content Management Systems.

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location. The salary range for this position is: $74,210- $141,830

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
