You see the big picture of a security service supported by a security operations plaform & understand it from many different angles.. Sometimes you think about it as business metrics in a pitch deck – ARR up and to the right, and how can the various flavors of expansion combine to push our DBNR to 115% or higher? Sometimes you see it as a system: different departments in the company, all responsible for components that let opportunities and customers flow smoothly from initial contact with a prospect all the way through onboarding. And sometimes you see it as an organization: people organized into teams, with clear missions and boundaries, each one becoming more effective and efficient over time.

Your multiple lenses through which to see the business enables you to collaborate with anyone in the company. Often it’s someone in an operations team to figure out how to make it easier to get prospects access to our products pre-sale, or our support team to get their biggest pain point that one of your teams might be able to address. Sometimes it’s the CISO on ways to reduce risk and help customers understand that we take the security of their data really seriously. And every once in a while, it’s a totally oddball thing that doesn’t fit neatly into any team’s wheelhouse, but you know someone’s gotta do something. That’s when you engage your broad and deep background in all things SaaS, security, software, and IT, and make the right things happen.

As the Director of Product Management, you & your team of PMs are responsible for onboarding, entitlements and metering experiences on our  Managed Detection and response platform that enables our security analysts and customers alike. As a Director of PM at the market leading MDR provider you are at the ready to take on the next security product expansion that Expel brings to market. . This role reports to the VP of Product Management and will have mutliple Senior Product Managers as direct reports.

Still reading? Great! This role isn’t for all PM leaders. Yes, you’ll do standard PM things – organize, communicate, and implement a roadmap, build relationships, and become the expert in how users use your areas of our product. For this role though, we’re looking for a leader who has seen enough of these scenarios before to know which solutions pay dividends and which are a distraction. If you thrive among the trio of achieving business goals, making systems hum, and building phenomenal user experience to help keep our customers safe - let’s go.

What Expel can do for you

  • Provide opportunities to have a measurable impact on the company’s key business metrics right away.
  • Surround you with experienced, collegial colleagues in Business Systems, Revenue Ops, Pricing & Packaging, Technical Support, and Engineering who are all trying to make Expel’s operations scale 10x.
  • Give you a foundation, and a team, you can build on. We’ve been working on this for years but know there’s a lot more we can do. In other words, you won’t be starting from scratch.
  • Build relationships with stakeholders and use their input to distill the many requests into a roadmap that achieves maximum impact.
  • Balance a PM’s responsibility for both short term and long term results.

What you can do for Expel

  • Lead and develop the PMs on your team
  • Spend time with our customers and ops team to understand their problems and work with them to come up with meaningful solutions
  • Tap into your insatiable attention for detail to provide our teams with the context they need to build an outstanding user experience
  • See through the haze of feature requests and requirements to the underlying needs and opportunities that will make our customers successful
  • Distill your ideas into a prioritized roadmap that, even though it makes us uncomfortable, we can execute on
  • Keep your thumb on the pulse of the market, the players, the competition, and the changing tide.
  • Ensure our strategic priorities are well-resourced for product managers, and clearly communicate trade-offs when there are more priorities than resources
  • Cut through the swirl of interconnected initiatives to eliminate unnecessary dependencies and deliver incremental value.

What you should bring with you

  • A curious, tenacious, and discerning mentality.
  • Familiarity with software engineering processes, from work planning to coding to software deployment.
  • Familiarity with SaaS sales practices and operations (customer provisioning, usage measurement, pricing, customer support, etc.)
  • Familiarity with the IT-related administration and configuration of enterprise SaaS applications. You understand that some companies delete user accounts when their employees leave, some just lock them, and some (shudder) don’t have any employee offboarding discipline at all – and you can guess which camp a company is in by looking at a list of the users of their SaaS applications and the last time each one logged in. Similarly, you understand how an organization might have different classes of users in their Okta or Microsoft 365 environment with different risk profiles on each class.
  • Broad understanding of cloud infrastructure related concepts such as Kubernetes, serverless, and autoscaling. You don’t have to know details of how any of it works, but you need to know the basics of what it is, how our customers generally use it, and how Expel can determine quantities for it.
  • Understanding of fundamental SaaS business metrics (Annual Recurring Revenue, Net Revenue Retention, Gross Margin, Net Sales Efficiency) and ways to influence each one.
  • Ability to create accountability through clear expectations and regular feedback, and drive teams towards outcomes
  • Comfort with ambiguity; the ability to find a path forward and lead others when the way forward is unclear, risky, or complex.
  • Self-awareness, humility, resilience.
