Esper is the industry's first DevOps SaaS platform designed to provide a simple, safe, and secure way for engineering and DevOps teams to release applications and manage smart Android devices. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Engineering to lead our engineering team. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with a proven track record of managing and scaling engineering teams, delivering high-quality software products, and driving innovation. As the Director of Engineering, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the engineering department, including architecture, technical strategy, team development, and cross-functional collaboration.
What You'll Be Doing

  • Lead and manage several engineering teams, providing guidance, mentorship, and support to managers and team members.
  • Develop and execute the technical roadmap and strategy in alignment with the company's goals and objectives.
  • Drive the development and delivery of high-quality projects, ensuring that these projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the engineering team.
  • Work closely with other departments to ensure alignment and coordination on projects and initiatives.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to provide inputs on technology-related decisions and strategic planning.
  • Building a diverse and inclusive team that reflects our values and culture.
  • Establish and maintain engineering best practices, processes, and standards to ensure efficiency, quality, and scalability.
  • Monitor and evaluate team performance, identifying areas for improvement and implementing solutions as needed.
  • Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and best practices, and incorporate them into Esper's Engineering processes and practices.


What We're Looking For

  • 15 years of experience in software engineering, with 5 years in a leadership or management role.
  • Having worked in a device-related roles is preferred but not a prerequisite.
  • Experience in working in a highly-innovative and dynamic startup environment.
  • Extensive technical expertise in AWS/Azure/Google Cloud Platform, Kubernetes, Kafka, Git, Jenkins, Go, Python and other relevant technologies.
  • Strong understanding of cloud services, microservices architecture, and modern data platform architecture, with experience in building and scaling complex systems.
  • Proven track record of successfully leading and managing engineering teams, delivering high-quality software products, and driving innovation.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies and project management tools.
  • Ability to think strategically, make informed decisions, and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
