The Department of Clinical Genomics is new to Helix, it is like a start-up within a start-up with ample opportunity for growth. In the Clinical Genomics team, you will enjoy a strong sense of community and will have the support you need to ensure you can deliver on the expectations of your role. 

Location: Hungary, Remote


As a Clinical Genomics Scientist I, you will:

  • Be responsible for variant and gene assessments including researching the significance of variants in published literature and clinical data, evaluating evidence for gene-disease associations, and performing data review.
  • Perform technical review of sequencing data derived from NGS, including genome, exome, panel, and single-site variant data, as well as other molecular assay data.
  • Compile interpretive variant summaries and contribute to clinical report writing.
  • Communicate clearly with internal and external stakeholders, such as genetic counselors, physicians, lab staff, and product developers.
  • Maintain laboratory variant knowledgebase and assist with curation and harmonization of variant classification changes over time.
  • Perform variant quality controls and maintain quality management programs according to written policies and procedures.
  • Actively participate in complex variant discussions/presentations, and conferences, as needed.
  • Contribute to research projects as necessary.


About you:

  • PhD degree with expertise in molecular genetics, human genetics, molecular pathology, or related fields or MSc degree with 2+ years of clinical genetics laboratory experience. 
  • Familiarity with human mutation databases, genome browsers, HGVS nomenclature, and in-silico variant pathogenicity predictors
  • Familiarity with sequencing technologies
  • Able to perform technical writing, as well as strong communication and computer skills [Google Suite, database management, etc]
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Able to critically read and distill data from the scientific literature 
  • Must be able to adjust to shifting priorities according to workload or business needs
  • Proficiency in reading, writing and speaking in English 
  • Able to work from home and engage in regular virtual meetings and collaboration with the US team, including adjusting to time differences as needed. Must be available to attend meetings outside of regular Hungarian business hours when necessary. 


Pluses:

  • Germline variant interpretation experience, familiarity with ACMG-AMP variant interpretation guidelines.
  • Experience with gene-disease validity curations based on ClinGen protocols.
  • Laboratory experience to be able to easily understand the scientific literature in genetics and molecular biology
  • Genetic data analysis experience
  • Familiarity with Integrative Genomics Viewer

Expected Pay For This Role:

Expected Helix Monthly Base Pay: 763 631 Ft - 1 068 975 Ft

The salary range above is our reasonable estimate of the base compensation for this role across US locations. Actual starting pay will be based on non-discriminatory job-related factors, including exact work location, experience, relevant training and education, and skill level. What To Expect During Your Onboarding Week:

We want to make sure your first week is spent learning the foundations. You will be invited to live orientation sessions and spend time with your hiring manager developing your individual roadmap to success. This experience will include sessions that cover your benefits, security & privacy training, an introduction to the OKR framework used at Helix and our communication tools and norms. 

What To Expect During Your First 90 days:

First 30 days:  you’ll spend time learning the Helix way, completing training and onboarding for your roles, and getting introduced to your team and relevant stakeholders. You’ll also gain a deeper understanding of our customers, our products, the impact we make in the lives of our communities, and how to thrive at Helix through participation in Helix U.  

Day 30 - 60: you’ll spend time contributing to projects, deeply familiarizing yourself with team and company processes, and developing a deeper understanding of Helix’s products, services and capabilities.

Day 60 - 90: you’ll build your OKRs with your manager, start to take ownership of projects and initiatives on your team, and begin to demonstrate your impact on the Helix mission.
