The Position

Ventana Medical Systems, Inc. seeks a Senior Systems Engineer in its Tucson, Arizona location.

Duties: Apply intensive and diversified knowledge of design principles, practices and implementation in complex systems and assignments to medical industry technologies. Generate design concept, participate in design reviews, development and testing to assess performance against design specification including reliability testing, and assessment of system interactions. Create potentially patentable components for systems, or processes. Participate in project planning, process updates and contributes to experimental design. Participate or lead in efforts to define new components, products or processes. Design and execute experiments to test hypothesis related to project outcomes. Apply advanced scientific knowledge to projects; determine priorities for experiments. Independently design and execute experiments. Utilize Design of Experiments (DOE) as appropriate. DOE is data collection and analysis tool that is used in experimental situations Assure experimental quality through sound, independent, and experimental design. Prepare and deliver presentations of project results to others; present data to larger and more diverse audiences. Participate or lead cross-functional technical teams. Teach others and troubleshoot problems. Practice and mentor in the use of company concepts, policies and procedures, become familiar with and follow standard practices. Provide technical direction and feedback to others.

Education and experience required: PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related engineering degree and 2 years of experience in job offered, or a closely related position.

Special Requirements:

Must have 2 years of experience with each of the following:

• Systems Engineering: Analyze, simulate and design systems using principles and practices of system analysis & requirements management.
• Automation Engineering: Design, analyze and build novel automation systems.
• Mechanical Engineering: Analyze, design and build physical systems using principles and practices including, 3D computer-aided design, rapid prototyping, mechanism design & thermal management.

Must have 1 year of experience with each of the following:

• Optics Engineering: Evaluate and analyze advanced optical systems and technologies.
• Software Engineering: Design, build and troubleshoot code for machine learning and/or hardware control to evaluate technologies and systems.

Travel (approx. 10%) Domestic and International, fully reimbursed.

Telecommuting permitted up to 4 days per week.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location for this position of Arizona is $119,330 to $149,640 per year. Actual pay within the range will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
