The Position

Roche Sequencing Solutions, Inc. seeks a Principal Scientist II in its Pleasanton, California location.

Duties: Work within an exceptionally complex, multi-site, multi-functional team to support the development of a unique, novel sequencing platform. Represent the Library Preparation and Target Enrichment (LP-TE) part of the sequencing method by leveraging extensive knowledge of LP-TE to ensure that the developed methods enable the detection of all relevant biomarkers for use in clinical oncology applications. Orient and train new research scientists and peers as needed, Prepare technical resources for the team to ensure that technical aspects are clearly communicated and easily understood. Lead experimental planning and data analysis for experiments focused directly on the development and optimization of novel library preparation, amplification, and target enrichment methodologies. Lead efforts required for application testing to demonstrate that relevant biomarkers can be detected. Identify and help resolve any technical challenges, and identify and implement any relevant improvements to work processes. Provide technical insight and recommendations to the Project Team. Prepare and deliver presentations to a range of diverse audiences. Establish and maintain productive relationships with personnel across various functions. Create detailed schedules for research activities relating to the project and track these activities, and provide budget estimations for resources and reagents/equipment to the Project Team. Support any Early Customer Monitoring programs required for the development of the novel sequencing platform, including generating relevant application data and drafting/reviewing relevant Instructions for Use, as well as leading efforts to create and present training material to customers. Will supervise (1) Principal Scientist I; (2) Sr. Scientists; (2) Scientist I.

Education and experience required: Master's in Biology, Biochemistry or closely related field and five (5) years of experience in job offered or closely related position. Alternatively the employer will accept a Bachelor degree in stated fields and seven (7) years of progressive, post-bachelor's experience in stated positions.

Special Requirements: Must have 5 years of experience with each of the following:

  • Next Generation Sequencing (NGS), including working with different platform types and their associated benefits and limitations;
  • Development and optimization of novel library preparation and amplification methods for the preparation of both DNA and RNA for use in NGS;
  • Development and optimization of novel target enrichment methods for use in NGS;
  • NGS Data Interpretation.

Must have 1 year of experience with each of the following:

  • Solving complex molecular biology problems relating to library preparation and target enrichment to enable the detection of relevant oncology-related biomarkers using NGS;
  • Product development and project management;
  • Working on Early Customer Monitoring programs;
  • Application of genetics of oncology and the use of NGS for the application-specific detection of various genetic and epigenetic biomarkers.

May telecommute 1 day per week.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location for this position of California is $175,200 to $234,400 per year. Actual pay within the range will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
