Elex Biotech Inc is a drug discovery and development company focused on first-in-class new chemical entities (NCEs) for the treatment of arrhythmia and heart failure. Using rational drug design and an internally generated SAR database, the Company has generated ~200 NCEs that stabilize mutant or dysfunctional Ryanodine receptor type 2 (RyR2), the Ca release channel that regulates the strength and frequency of heart muscle contractions. Elex Biotech has demonstrated in vivo proof of concept in animal models of catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia (CPVT), an orphan disease estimated to cause 15% of unexplained sudden cardiac death in apparently healthy young people.
